The youngest ascent of Everest is Jordan Romero, who was 13, mature for his age and well-experienced in 2010 when he did it. The rest of your ignorant post is nullified. It still has the one of the highest death rates of any mountain in the world. It is foolish thinking like yours that gets people killed when they find out the bitter reality.
As a lifelong fan of Alpinism and Mountain Climbing, ever since watching The Alpinist and 14 Peaks on Netflix as a young child, I fully agree with this.
Good for her. So what if she has money? She clearly has heart and effort. Denali is a beast, this girl is a beast
As a black man, you don't find it condescending for a highly privileged rich white girl to be strolling around a poor black village?
I have no problem it whatsoever. She's not just strolling around a village, she's helping communities build a much needed infrastructure. She might even be having fun and learning something while she's doing it too. What a sad lot some of you are on here finding any reason you can to discredit the charitable works of an eighteen year old girl. You should be ashamed of yourselves. She can't control where she comes from but she can control what she does and how she lives her life. It appears she does a lot of positive things for people and enjoys it. Yet, some people on here judge her for climbing a stupid mountain because she should only climb the appropriate one. Listen to how idiotic that sounds. Everest is the pinnacle of summits. If you're in that world, why wouldn't you want to do it if you could? Hobbs Kessler likes rock climbing. If he climbs rocks on the moon, more power to him. I'm not gonna judge him for it if he's privileged enough to do it. Let this girl live.
Odd. As a black man you should know that black villages are poor because of slavery and colonialism by white people that benefited from getting rich and powerful and to this very day has still benefited white people. Having a highly entitled and rich white girl strolling around a poor black village is like having a white colonialist master rubbing it in.
For many climbers, Mt. McKinley presents the alluring chance to reach the top of our continent. But the dangers involved in doing so are very real and someti...
Must be nice to have a rich dad who pays for Everest and then some.
"I started climbing because my family is very adventurous. My life's mantra is 'limits are perceived,' so I love pushing myself to my very limit and discovering what my body and mind can do. So what better way to do it than climb the highest mountain in the world."
Everest is like the Disneyland of mountain climbing. All it takes is money. If 70+ year old women are doing it, you can't tell me it's a difficult feat. Basically you pay a company $50,000 to hire a bunch of sherpas to carry your gear, cook your meals, set up ladders and ropes, and stash your oxygen tanks. With oxygen, the altitude is largely irrelevant. Seriously just take a look at the physiques of some of the people that have accomplished this "feat" and then tell me its a difficult endeavor. You can be literally be 50 pounds overweight and do this.

Everest is like a very expensive Western States but with a 1/100 death rate.

In addition, Mt. Everest is a much safer climb than some other 8000m peaks. Annapurna and K2 have a much higher death rate than Mt. Everest.
18 year old Lucy Westlake is going to run for USC in the fall and just climbed Mt Everest. I haven't looked her her HS times but she will be running XC
USC cross country freshman Lucy Westlake discusses climbing Mt Everest, influence of coach Harris to her training, variety of training locations University of Southern California utilizes to train for cross country, strength training and culture of USC Trojan athletics and more.
Anyone can climb Everest. There have been 80 year old women and 6 year olds, handicapped, blind, and everything in between. There is no level of fitness nor skill required.
Just pay the money and follow the guide's instructions and if you are in the 99.9% of the time that the weather is as forecasted, then you have climbed Everest. If in the 0.1% of the time that a freak storm appears out of nowhere, then you could be the most fit and experienced climber in the world and you are a goner.
Running a mile under 6 minutes is more of an accomplishment than climbing Everest and I would submit, that 80% of the people who have climbed Everest could not have run a 6 minute mile the week before, and that 100% of sub 6 minute milers can climb Everest if they are in the 99.9% that the weather is as forecast when they make the attempt.
I wonder if it's the same people here saying how easy it is to climb Everest who also claim Kilian lied about climbing it. If a 6-year old can do it imagine how easy it must have been for the world's best mountain runner. There would be no chance he could fail given how it's even easy for the average person.
