I am on a college team who is fairly competitive.
There are a lot of kids on the team who whine and complain, saying things like the fast kids don't care about me that much and don't encourage me, or I don't get any attention, etc. Most of these kids are walk ons.
Have any of you ever had to deal with this? And I am not talking about in High School or a Girls team. This is a legitimate college male team. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
As a former walk-on, I don't agree with complaining, but side with those whiners' views. They should just keep quiet.
It isn't pampering or pats on the back, but some feedback (coaching) once in a while, good or bad. We're trying to make a tough adjustment, and the biggest expert (coach) isn't coaching us, other than handing out workouts. It's pretty natural to not like it.
I ended up improving a lot into a decent D1 runner and eventually got that coaching, but don't think the 2 years of waiting were right. I had a lot to learn about training then, and the last 2 years of coaching would've been great spread out to 4.
Regarding "weeding out the weak", that's garbage. The weak will weed out regardless.
