I was just looking through all the prelim results and I see that Anna Hall is the #2 qualifier in the 400H! Just amazing!
Why is it amazing, she is a great track athlete and the multi athletes usually excel at one or two events and are damn good at the others. They don't get nearly enough attention in the media.

She is also #8 in the 800
Damn! I missed that. I did she she closed her heptathlon last week with a freakin 2:03!
@runnerexpert- it’s amazing because not many multi-eventers practice the 400 hurdles. And also because this is the SEC. She is an incredible athlete.
There is a discussion on the T&FN Forums about Steiner's form. The consensus there seems to be that it is messed up and that as good as she is, she could be a lot faster with better form. A key to her success is her turnover. Perhaps she needs those choppy arm swings to accomodate that. It will be interesting to see who coaches her when she turns professional next month and if they try to tinker with her form at all.
Someone in the T&FN Forums posted a video of Steiner in her freshman year racing Sha'Carri in the 200 SEC finals. Steiner nearly caught her at the line and if the race had only been a few feet longer, would have beaten her. Steiner's form in the video below is markedly different than what it is today.
Form police are the worst. theres just way too many "experts" on the internet that feel that someone who is already dominatingly fast and successful and who theyve never met or worked with obviously needs to change their form. theres a lot more to being a successful runner than just your form yet thats all these clowns ever talk about. block work and starts should be her focus.
Not really sure about the form… she seems to be doing very well as she is, but not enough mechanics knowledge to comment about it.
But if you're a college track fan, especially of the sprints, this should be a very exciting evening.
At 6:05, the women's 4/1 goes off. Kentucky and LSU are one and two and Ofili and Steiner will be in it.
At 7:25, the women’s 100 finals. Looks like Steiner and Ofili are the top two, but Joella Lloyd looked good last night as well.
At 8:25, the women’s 200 finals. This is almost certainly a two woman race between Steiner and Ofili.
Their times this outdoor season are so close that its really a toss-up, in my view. I hope to see a fantastic two hours of sprints (including the men in the same events) . But I think theres more anticipation for the women because of this tremendous matchup between these two. We've been waiting for this matchup since the indoor season finished.
I just hope everyone gets through injury free and can move on to the NCAA’s.

So you don’t like form police but you dis her start and block form?😁
You’re right about the block work and starts, especially the first 5 steps. The good news is that it can be improved significantly, without negatively affecting her gains in the other race phases.
As far as top-end goes, she is like a Kim Collins, but with mad SE that gets her an excellent 200, like a female MJ. She will never be a 100m great with that high-speed form, it is too limiting in the belly of the race. While there is some endurance in the 100, it is more a eace of extremes than the 200–ie absolute level trumps efficiency. Schippers was like this, too.
IMO she will do well at the college level, but will never rise near the level of SAFP or ETH, or even SCR in that one great race she had.
She’s trying real front-side mechanics, like Jacobs, and Powell before him. The difference of course is the quality of the blocks, start, and early accel. If she can get it she will rise to the same relative level as those 2, but will be behind all-time greats, as Powell was behind Bolt and Gay. Jacobs won because it was a relatively weak field.
I want to see her get it. If she does, she is 10.8, maybe 10.7-high, which is excellent.
Ofili IMO has no such limitation. Right now, if they were both fresh, I give the edge to Steiner, slightly, in both races. In rounds or somewhat spent, I give the edge to Ofili—less pump strokes, more glide; less absolute power, but less power needed.

I’d give this 100 upvotes if I could.
I'm not usually into the sprints but I'm going on out early tonight for these events, primarily due to the above mentioned women. Boling vs. whomever in the 100 and 200, as well. Ole Miss men have 4 of the 12 in the 1500 final and the women have 2 in the 1500. A bunch are signed up for the 5k's but I don't know who will actually run it all the way or what's going on with it. Baylor Franklin is in the 800. I've still not heard what's up with John Rivera but I'll probably ask around tonight and find out. He was running well.
It looked like Steiner had to adjust the baton before her handoff. At first, I thought she switched hands but then ran it back and rewatched it. Maybe she didn't have enough of the baton exposed to make the pass?
I'm taking a lot of this from a thread on the T&FN Forums because they are also highights for me.
100W--Steiner, Ofili, Baylark, Stark 200W--Steiner & Ofili - hopefully this lives up to the billing 200M--Fahnbullah, Camel, Boling 100M--Fahnbullah, Camel, Ashe, Boling TJ-W--Moore & Hooper LJ-W--Hall, Moore, Acquah HJ-W--Distin & Glenn 110H--Edwards 1500W--Gear & Gregory 1500M--Kipsang 400H-W--Wilson, Hall, Glenn 10000W--Chelangat & Thorvaldson - I am really surprised that Arkansas is running a frosh in the 10. 400W--Charokee Young 3000SC-W--Kimeli, Jolly, Gear 5000M--Kipsang 5000W--Gregory & Chelangat PV-W--Gunnarsson 100H--Stark, Armstrong, Russell & Robinson
yea, that is something I noted in the "NC State Injuries" thread...Arkansas pushes their athletes hard...this should qualify Chelangat for regionals if she wants to do 10 vs 5 (or both) W800 has McDonald, Barret, Rose and more, W1500 has Vissa who if right can run with Gear and Gregory
Vissa, 4:08 over Gregory, Gear had nothing after the heat and then the 3000s yesterday including a fall.
Vissa and Gregory are both doubling with the 5000m. It'll be interesting to see how they do, especially Gregory.. and compare with Tuohy today over at ACCs
