I'm considering taking a part-time job where I'll be titled as an "independent contractor" and will have to file a 1099.
Anyone have any experience with this? Bad or good move?

you will be responsible for paying taxes. you will need to keep receipts for work related items such as uniforms as they can be written off. one reason employers use this model is to avoid health benefits. if you are young and healthy you should be ok. if you get running injuries you'll have out of pocket expenses. it is not difficult to learn the tax issues, and if you like the job, you should be fine.
I experienced a fling in 1066.
similarly, i'm an independant contracter part time - $1000/month driving a cab one day a week while in grad school - i'd like some tax advice. there are plenty of things that i can write off and nobody knows exactly how much i make. do i even have to file?
Speaking of paying taxes, your great-great-great-great Garndson paid me with the lease to your entire Kingdom. Magna Carta my ass!!!

You will not just be responsible for paying income tax but also employment taxes which generally will double your taxes.
If you are looking at doing this for a while, get a good accountant. I am able to write-off everything I deem as useful for my business. There are many things that I use for work that I also use for home. I write it all off. The big corporations write off wellness programs/ fitness gyms why can't you?
