Amazing to see them again.
I was so happy to see them alone on the stage, unlike some other classic bands who now go on stage with horn sections and choirs to cover up the fact they can't play anymore.
They've aged but the power is still there.
Eric Clapton is a great guitar player and of course is a legend in rock n roll. However, his Robert Johnson stuff was weak and boring. If anyone else had recorded that critics would have slammed it..
I saw it last night. Always fun to watch old white people try to act cool at a rock concert. Clapton was getting off. Looked like they were having fun. I'm looking more forward to Queen Live at Wembley Stadium which airs Friday at 8pm on Maryland Public TV. Check your local listings.
Saw it as well. Thought it was pretty good, but missed the lengthy solo on Spoonful- they are not quite into improvisation as much as they were, but as reunion concerts go, this is pretty good. But hey, Rush just put out their 30th reunion concert DVD, and those guys still kick it out. Ya gotta love Ginger Baker and Neil Peart both- two of the best drummers in rock ever. And Jack Bruce's bass playing was pretty amazing, since he never actually plays on the beat, just all around it.
Tried to watch it, but the wife wouldn't let me.
Oh well.
I watched it also. I thought they didn't let Ginger go off like he used to. The song list was full of the slower bluesy songs, which are cool, but they were missing the chaos of old. I was most surprised by Jack Bruce's voice, for being pretty old it hadn't changed that much. That's a big thing with these kind of reunion tours of old bands. If the lead singer's voice is shot, then it most likely will suck, but his held up well.
Man, that version of crossroads was WEAK. I kept hearing Clapton's guitar from the popularized recording in my head. Way faster. Just like i used to be when the hippies roamed the earth.
Queen Live at Wembley? That can't be new can it? Without Freddie Mercury what is the point?
Surprisingly, I thought Ginger Baker held up the best of the three. The concert is decent, much better than many old fogey groups, but not as great as I'd hoped. Clapton's just a bit too mellow at this point. He did a great job on "Badge," though, and Jack Bruce was best on "We're Going Wrong."
Not new. I think the performance was in 1980's...circa Live Aid. Would eventually be the band's final performance at that stadium.
Otherwise I agree with you. Without Freddie there is no point. The new Queen with Paul Rodgers deal is hardly Queen.
pressed rat and warthog had closed down their shop. They didn't want to.....it was all they had got.
