Newbury Park had the best cross country team in history. They will be remembered, you don't have to worry about that.
Track fans will remember but not the average student at NPHS. This is not a small Texas town where the football players are treated like gods in the community. Probably the only reason anyone outside of the XC and track teams knows about Colin Sahlman is because they had a ceremony for him when he won Gatorade player of the year and they probably announced it over the loudspeakers.
Newbury Park has already won a NATIONAL cross country championships that you claim they will be forgotten for, but you think that they will be remembered for a STATE title? I think you have things backwards.

So they are flying all over the country, winning national championships, and setting records and the other students at their school barely know who they are? You are way off.
Winning a state team title for your school and all of your classmates also lives forever in the town, They definitely could have had that by shrewd doubling between the four. Admittedly they did it in XC, but in Track it is much tougher in Cali and that feat would never have been forgotten at Newbury Park.
What's the more impressive accomplishment from the perspective of a track fan: Winning a state title or running in a DL meet against an Olympic final caliber field?

No one gives a $%$% about Running Lane. NP will be remembered as a historic team for sure but it won't be because of Running Lane. More generally (not just to you), winning State -- and even better possibly setting a state record in the process -- in track in California is a big deal. California is a HUGE state of course, and the State titles and records are not watered down by having multiple divisions. I wouldn't think it a tough call at all if this were a small state, but these guys will have plenty of chances to run against more talented runners, including Olympians, over the next 5 (or 20) years. Having said that, I don't begrudge them making the decision that they made, but to me they should have basically jogged some of the qualifiers and then killed it at the California state meet.

Can Lex jump past Nico on the AT list? I can see him targeting 13:50 with a stretch goal being 13:44. 13:37.91 Galen Rupp (Central Catholic, Portland, Oregon) 2004 13:44.0 Gerry Lindgren (Rogers, Spokane, Washington) 1964 13:44.70 Dathan Ritzenhein (Rockford, Michigan) 2001 13:50.55 Nico Young (Newbury Park, California) 2020
2 out of the 4 runners were there at the meet watching Lex pass them on the all time list - Dathan Ritzenhein and Nico Young.
On the other hand, Gerry Lindgren says that with super spikes he could have run a 5k in 11 minutes flat!

idk bruh I feel like if someone at my high school ran a sub-4 mile, word would at least spread throughout school about it. It's like, the one and only track accomplishment that the average person in the US knows is really impressive.

It depends who is looking at the results. If it is a HS student caught in the moment of social media who doesn't care about athletics after HS, then the state meet. If it is a knowledgeable track person, then the overall package through one's career.

If any of them won State I am sure they would have a ceremony and announce it over the loudspeakers. Win some other meet while competing "unattached", not so much.
What are you blathering about. Ridiculous to suggest he should run state instead of Pre. Pre is a Diamond league meet, is on national tv, and has Olympic quality fields.

Based on his 7:57 and legendary NXN XC win, Nico could have run sub-13:40 in HS.

His 13:50 was run in very hot conditions and solo for most of the race. He probably could've ran 13:43 in the ideal conditions that Lex raced in yesterday. But Lex will be running in the 13:30s next year.
