Spot on, I think those are reasonable targets for both... This 1500 will serve as a good prep for the Prefontaine Mile for Sahlman, as it sounds like his entry will be announced soon.

I predict 3:37.6 for Colin and 13:41 for Lex, who has run significantly faster than Ritz at 2M converted and so should be able to beat his 13:44.7 from high school.

Like this, but I might go a touch faster with 3:39.0 and 13:45. I think there's been some ups-and-downs with NP of late, but these two are in this for a reason and a ready to roll.

I'm expecting between 3:37 and 3:39 for Sahlman. Young is a tough call because not sure how much 5000 specific training, if any, he's done in the past few months. Most likely in the 13:40 to 13:50 range. Will be fun to watch.

Colin will go for the win no doubt. He's won against pro's before and he'll do it again this week. I believe Colin will go under 3:40 100%. I think sub 3:38 is there. Lex is the tough one, though Lex seems to run better when his brother is out/not in the race (his 7:57). I believe Lex will go 13:40-13:50.

The question really is whether both of these boys will go the CIF route. CIF prelims are the following day. It also raises if the other two boys Aaron and Leo will pursue that route. At this point they really don't get any competition from the state and rather the national scene. I think the next step for NB boys is to go to u20 worlds.

They've already stated that Colin and Lex are skipping CIF. Running open meets only and chasing fast times; their call per Brosnan. It gives them a better chance to chase some records. I can understand the decision as they've already beaten their CIF competition multiple times.

Agree. Colin and Lex beat the next fastest non-NP runner in the state by 70 meters at the Arcadia 3200. Nothing left to prove against in state high school competition this year.

Leo has temporarily stopped running so he can fully recover from a serious illness. His next meet with be cross country fall 2022.

Aaron is going the CIF route in the 800. He will be the only one of the top four Newbury Park boys doing CIF.

Too bad, only go to HS once, records are made to be broken.

sorry to see HS kids skip out in their teams to chase times that will be meaningless in 20 years just to boost their own and their coaches ego’s.

3:43 for Sahlman because the 1500 has a slightly different tactic. I dont think he can close in 52 with the big boys.

14:28 for Lex. Newbury is toast and he wont handle being out of the money so he will, categorically, bomb.

I’m still impressed with Ryun’s 3:55. For HS, fast PRs are a big deal.

Using Ritz's as an indicator is not the best way to frame this. He was so much better than everyone his senior year that he was out solo most of the time. His AOC run that year was muggy and he just ran to win completely unchallenged. The 13:44 was awesome in that field, finished just infant of Teg and smoked his future Buff teammate Torres.
