At the absolute most, she might've been able to run 15:20 with super shoes outdoors, and that's a bit of a stretch. She was capable of sub-15:10 today, and maybe even 15:05, so this is a definite improvement.
Nevada Merano, who just ran the 1500 a hour ago, also ran the first 2600 of the 5k for some reason.
Marlee Starliper, who is on the comeback from injuries, also ran the 5k but only made it 3000 and then dropped out. Hope it's not an injury problem.
I could be wrong but remember reading that Starliper was going to act as pacemaker. Not sure if it panned out that way. Nevada could’ve been doing workout?
Starliper did not have pacing duties, she was running dead last for many laps until she dropped out... she was supposed to get a 5000m time but dropped out at 3400m .. hopefully its not another injury.
anna vess paced through 1400m then savannah shaw took over until 1800m
then tuohy took it from there, quite earlier than what you expect ..pacers usually leave at 3000m while tuohy took it at 1800m point.. so impressive to get 15:14 .. just shows you how strong, fast and mentally tough tuohy she is.
Super shoes give you the most return on concrete...
On a track that already has pretty good energy return you're not going to get a huge difference
At most you're talking about one second per k
Obviously the biggest factors are the track surface and then race conditions and then pacers...
Shoe technology has always been improving so depending on how far back the records were probably 1 to 5 seconds is fair for a 5K
Tuohy maybe benefited from about 7 seconds compared to her indoor high School record... If you look at the totality of the race
She's still running quite a bit faster than she did in high school... At all distances!
the pacers did a good job at pacing only until 1800m .. tuohy could easily go sub 15:10 if they paced her through 3k but thankfully tuohy is used to this type of race where its just her and the clock .. 15:14 is nothing short of impressive ... also she pulled 16 runners to personal bests... for sure thats record breaking too
and yes tuohy now has been running faster on all distances, has continued to steadily improve!
why is adidas not yet giving katelyn tuohy a NIL deal
Tuohy is smart to avoid all that... It's just added hassles and pressures... She is going to school for free getting all gear for free... Getting some stipends probably as well...

You're actually right, katelyn tuohy gets 25k-35k likes on her recent instagram posts, and an engagement rate of 15x higher than of professional distance runners, she has agents commenting on her posts asking her to reply on their dms ...and i guess shes ignoring em.
Based on how she finished, she is capable of so much more. Tuohy took the lead at 1800m and she looked so relaxed running even and negative splits. That was simply PHENOMENAL.
A few weeks ago at Raleigh Relays, a few middle schoolers from daughter’s track team asked Katelyn for autographs and selfies after her race. She obliged and then invited all of them to go warm down with her. That story made me a lifelong fan. I’m thrilled to see her running well like this.

The splits would say otherwise about starliper running last, at 3k she was with steelman
Semi, your a little out in left field here. Starliper dead last? She was not pacing Tuohy, but Steelman. I watched the race, Starliper lead Steelman trough the first 6 Laps, and they both went through the 3200 around 10:01-10:03. Starliper then went off to the side with coach Henes and was cheering for Hannah. The rest of the race she was cheering on her teammates with coach Henes. It was obvious she was pacing because she was constantly looking at her watch and looking over her shoulder to make sure Steelman was there.
I saw hannah leading not marlee before she stopped, but my eyes were not on them all the time. Best race I have ever watched. I wish I was fast like the other girls, not tuohy because phew, it is impossible. My friends and I were so inspired.
