Sydney Thorvaldson in the 10k? no talk about this?
I saw that she was on the start list on the live stats but Arkansas' press releases never mentioned her as being in the 10000m, just the 5000m. Wonder if it was an error, or her entry in the 10K was very outdated
Yeah his best time is almost 7 years ago. Even is now 33 and the steeplechase seems to favor the young and healthy, with few exceptions. Evan is indeed finished as a medal contender.
He'll be lucky to make an international final, but he's still probably the best in the country after two more months of training and shaking off some more rust.
you ought to know better being a coach and wejo having been a sub-elite that you don't necessarily just go out and blast a huge performance first time back in an event like this. ultimately it was a rustbuster.
he ran 13:13 a few months ago, right? so he's got the base level fitness. they went out slowish, he negative split the 2nd half and was always at the front. can he run 8:00 right now? clearly not, but he could prob run faster than 8:35 3-4 days from now, maybe even tomorrow if he was put in a race won closer to 8:20. that race was run similar to a quarter-final heat and he ran like he was just trying to get through the rounds, which makes sense given the circumstances.
malmo seems to be one of the few that actually gets it, unsurprisingly given his past experience.
I am not sure if this board is more pro or anti Jager. His last K was 8:21 pace, I wouldn't say he is done yet.
What do you mean pro or anti Jager? When one assesses a runner, this should be irrelevant. As for your assertion that Jager’s last 1000m was 8:21 pace, this is unimpressive if one then states that his first 2000m were roughly 8:40 pace. Maybe some of us are really on the same page though. I agree with Malmo that Jager is not finished in the sense that he may be able to make the US team, but I do believe he is finished as a medal contender. Only time will tell but time is not on Evan’s side.
I don't get why you would expect him to run a faster time, given that it was a slowly run race. The first km was 2:58 for christ's sake.
The more significant thing is that he got beaten; but if he hasn't done the event for 4 years, you'd think he'd be taking the barriers fairly conservatively. Therefore, it's fairly easy to see how someone willing to take more risks could run over the top of him.
If he got around uninjured and was reasonably competitive, that's a huge win. There are massive gains to be made simply by getting more confidence over the barriers. The technical aspect is significant in the steeplechase.
He's world class. All times are good. Nothing matters for another two months.
Evan Jager is DONE
Is this a joke??? I'm not reading that way, but I hope so/expect better.
Rojo's continued hot take/keyboard diarrheas are to be expected. Judging a stud's career and capability by a one-off performance in April??? THAT idiotic "Quick Take" I expect from a cretin who wants to splash and generate drama. The rest of you should know better. Malmo knows what he's talking about; he's the only one here who has truly been there and knows the trials of miles Jager is facing.
I predict a sub-8:15 by the end of summer. Jager aint running sub-8 or sub-8:05, but there's nothing facing the fans to actually write him off yet.
Is this a joke??? I'm not reading that way, but I hope so/expect better.
Yes it’s mostly a joke, or me just trying to ruffle malmo’s feathers a bit. I’ve repeatedly seen malmo shun speculation and analysis early in the season in this “just shut up and wait until June” kind of way, but that seems to me like the complete antithesis of this message board’s existence. As a sports fan, I actually think some premature declarations are a healthy part of encouraging fan engagement—you see it every day on Pardon the Interruption and the like.
I don’t think this was a particularly encouraging result for Jager fans. I don’t think it’s proof that he’s done, either. As for your expecting better, lord knows I don’t owe you a thing.
