Go to the OPM website...pretty much all federal government jobs get posted there and you can apply for many through that website. Some organizations have their own online application process, but they still post their openings on the OPM site.

If you go to the OPM site and type "engineer" or a similar term, you will probably get a long list that would include, for example, hydrologist. Somewhere on the site, you can determine the job code, such as 1315 for hydrologist or 1340 for meteorologist. I would recommend trying to find the code that best matches the type of job you are trying to find. I think you can also choose a specific city.
