I've heard the term "local elites" used to describe people who consistently finish in the top X (5, 10, etc.) of runners in a city. I have heard people mention my name in that category here in Tucson, AZ, and find it strange that people would consider me "elite." When I used to run races in Pennsylvania and now when I travel to races in California, I can run the same, or faster, times than my races in Tucson (15:46 for 5K) and be well off the leaders. So it seems that a "local elite" in Tucson seems to be an "also ran," at best, in bigger racing arenas. I'm curious about what times are considered "local elite" in other areas... not counting places like Mammoth Lakes, CA, or Hanson Brothers City, USA.
