Went back and did some more research. Guess what the winning women’s 5k time was at NCAA outdoor champs last year? It was 15:28. Guess who ran it? Elly Henes. Does that make Cook better than Henes? Oh hell no!! In these distance events, the final times don’t tell the whole story. Tactical races are a real thing - no one cares about times in a championship scenario only what gets you the win.
Whether they’re unimaginative (yet successful) trolls or they’re missing some mental faculties, these guys come out every time someone has a PR that’s clearly not representative of their full potential. Just ignore them the best you can. Tuohy has definitely reached 15-teens level already, maybe better. I would put the over-under on Tuohy for the next 12 months (accepting she might not get in the right race this outdoor season) at 15:10, and when she runs that 15:10, it probably won’t be a perfect race, either.
Cook did that off 20 MPW. She is feeling better and plans to increase to 35 MPW as the season progresses. Of course she will beable to lead a 15:15 and go sub 15 in a paced race.
A 5k youngster unable to handle more than 20mpw, does not bode well. Cook might be better off focusing on mid-D (800/1500).

she does not have the speed for 800/1500, what natalie cook has, is a good endurance because of her cross training
although the thought of tuohy running a fast all-out excites the shh out of me knowing how much she improved, im still pretty sure shes aiming for wins and not times

When would she run a race in which she might meet this standard and would she extend her season 2 weeks after the NCAA's to run in a race to qualify for the a meet she would not run in? I have to believe priorities at this point are 1) qualifying for NCAAs 2) trying to win NCAA and 3) preparing to try to defend NCAA XC title.
my girl kt is probably capable of running 15:20s now and to be able to break that she has to run against courtney wayment and other fast runners in an all-out race
How is a thread about guessing someone's time in the future made too early?

idk, maybe just being careful, threads like this is what creates pressure
Pressure is part of life, gotta learn how to deal with it.
Tuohy made it pretty clear in her interview with Emma Abrahamson that she’s not a Let’s Run fan. I doubt that she cares about the opinions of a bunch of dudes about what her fastest time in the 5 will be. I also doubt that she will feel much pressure. She also made it clear in that interview that she’s well-adjusted.

same, i dont think worlds22 is on her priorities, winning an ncaa title sure is, after getting so close twice indoors
i think why elly ran a fast 5000m last season 15:18 was because it was her last season, she wanted to qualify for the trials and she was turning pro
- elly ran her 15:18 in west coast relays, she ran it alone
Tuohy was a phenom in HS. Tuohy is a great college runner. But Tuohy has barely improved over the past 5 years and she is 1 minte from being a factor on the world stage. Nothing in her trajectory indicates future greatness. The same gripes that some of you make about great high schooler applies to Tuohy as a college runner. High school phenoms stagnate. Tuohy is stagnating. Look at Schweizer or Purrier or Coburn to see the normal trajectory of an elite runner. Tuhoy is not it.
