I've recently took up running over the last 4 months and have managed a few 5k races. I'm getting a little discourged because because I can't seem to break 20 minutes. I average around 15 miles a week and do intervals once every other week. My friend who also just took up running seems to be naturally talented. His times are in 17 minute range and he doesn't do any speedwork. We are both competitive in all things we do exept for running. Is there any hope with me in being able to compete with my best friend? I know I'll never be super fast such as 14 or 15 minute 5ks but I'd be happy if I could at least get into the 16 minute range.
