If he abandons his road marathon goal at this juncture, I will greatly reduce my viewership of his channel. Conversely, if/when he lines up on the start line of the US Marathon Olympic Trials in 2024 at the age of 37, it will add another stellar accomplishment to his resume, thereby cementing his place as the GOAT of running youtubers!
And if he doesn't it's 100% on him. The guy easily has the talent to be probably the best running YouTube out there. He could easily crush Sage Canaday's 2:19 or whatever and be a minor rock star in the YouTube world. Even win some smaller but semi-relevant road marathons.
But I'm still puzzled as to WHY he trains in such a stupid way. Can't he do 5 long slow runs for footage or whatever (maybe some more miles @ MP), but throw in a secret weekly tempo run, and a secret day of intervals?? Does he really believe that stuff is useless? Does he just not like doing it? Is he trying to be an annoying contrarian? I wish he'd make a video on this to explain his thinking (or lack thereof) on the topic.
I actually kind of like the guy but his training is absolutely maddening especially since he has the talent (and time) to OTQ.
I saw him maybe three weeks ago running at Wash Park in Denver. I was running clockwise and he the opposite. He looked okay. I think he was doing some sort of tempo run, perhaps. My impression of him was "this is how I don't want to look as a runner". Anyways, not a fan of his channel. Why am I even writing this? God!
just looked at the most recent video. My main takeaway is he's <2weeks out from his race and is putting his legs at a 4-5/10.
My concern with the cryptic message about "losing no fitness in 2 weeks" is not whether or not it's factually correct, but why mention it at all? is that him lining up taking time off directly before the Marathon? At this stage if he takes some days off or down days, it will give him a false sense of freshness, it won't be enough to dig himself out of the hole and so he'll get to the start-line thinking he OK, and then we know what happens next
I dont mean to just point out problems without a solution, but at this stage I'd be very concerned going into a Marathon overcooked
How about on a real course bro? Has he ever broken 2:19? The dude is a 2:19-2:20 marathoner in races where it counts regardless of your opinion.
Aside from that distraction, the point is that SJD has the base, has the talent, and has the right body/frame to do very very well. The problem is he doesn't understand how to train properly or refuses to do so for whatever reason.
It's maddening to see. He could be putting up way better results in way less time (fewer miles, faster miles) and spending more time with his beautiful loving family. Running the Olympic trials. Instead his attention is split in a million different ways and he's getting old.

Just to set the record straight here I've actually run 2:16:52 and 1:04:32 (when I was already active on Youtube for years) and qualified for 2 US Olympic Trials. I've also been top 20 at Boston and top 20 at Chicago. I may never run under 2:20 again, but don't say my marathon PR is *only* 2:19. I have run a lot of 2:19:xx marathons though. #FactCheck.
FYI as far as Seth goes he's also on the Zegama startlist. Also, I highly doubt he makes enough money on YouTube to support his family/mortage. He gets really good engagement and does a lot of member add-ons/affiliate deals and endorsements it appears (which certainly helps), but I think it's misleading when people like Kofuzi post their ad sense earnings as they don't scale linearly with sub count usually. Given he does very frequent videos he probably makes quite a bit more than someone like me right now (although I get better deals on Instagram than Youtube honestly), but I would not rely on my Google Adsense money at all (I make a decent amount...but I don't have 5 kids!). It is very, very hard to make a huge income on Youtube with less than half a million subs (and also really good engagement).

I actually ran 2:18 low at the Olympic Trials (Houston) as well. If you don't want to count my 2:16:52 (rock n' roll San Diego 2011) fine. I ran a legit 1:04:32 half...which honestly is probably a better performance.
If you don't count my marathon PR though you can't count anyone's PR at CIM or Boston or Grandmas because they are also point to point courses.

Mic drop.
So maybe DeMoor is playing 3D chess, while his critics on this forum are playing checkers.

Pretty reasonable to defend your PBs!
What is your take on his potential, in all seriousness? Just as a coach who has ran the time he is aiming to eventually.
He is close so far to your half-marathon pace; I believe his is circa 1:05:40 (so of course you have about a minute on him and if ran in the same race that'd be a lifetime, but depending on the course it 'd be interesting).
Do you think that he has the ability to OTQ? I find it surprising that people deny flatly that he can... but also agree that his training is odd and not road marathon optimised. What's your take?
It's getting to be about that time.... to predict our favorite youtubers time at Gasparilla Half Marathon. The guy says he feels good, I'm calling BS on that. I think he mentally is trying to bring himself around but physical...

Genuinely curious.
He’s potentially going to squeeze out another mouth or two to feed in the coming years, have to sell the Mc mansion but the hundreds of thousands of gently used running shoes will come in handy and repurposed into an adobe hut to live in.
At the end of the day there will always be someone better. Take Philip Sesemann for example. He has run a marathon in 2 hours and 12 minutes, yet he works as a full time doctor. Unless you enjoy it you might as well all retire from runnining.

Per my IG algorithm, SJD seems to be shilling for a NordicTrack stationary bike. Good to see he cross trains some. I know he’s decent about hitting the gym. Doing some things right. Can we agree?
