Not terrible though 4:35pr, 9:0x double for Chmiel. I think both Chmiel and Tuohy can go 15:20-25 in 5k. Gregory, Wayment and Chelangat are the other leaders. Hays no slouch either. This will be some race, although 3k will actually be of higher quality.
This was a good call overall! Nailed the first 5 finishers.
Any new thoughts on 3000 today? Mackay not making the mile final helps her. Roe, McCabe, Ryan are fresh. I think the 5000 runners used up a lot last night...but if they let the pace be slow anything can happen. I have to believe Roe or Ryan will push the pace.

It would be impressive if any of the 5000 contenders were able to finish top 3 in the 3k. I would expect Wayment or Mercy to have the best chance....but who knows these days. Mccabe would be my bet to win.
Curious about the DMR...NC State got DQ'd, but their runner didn't step in from of VT. She stopped in her lane and VT ran into her. Is that what they are supposed to do?

It takes a sec to figure out who is where and that's what Bush did. Last year runners just went inside without looking and interfered. I still think the VT athlete bears some responsibility not to run into a stationary runner in a different lane.

That was something.
No surprise if someone in the Nikeverse just eased into the BTC offices and scribbled a polite suggestion on the boss's whiteboard:

Wayment put up her 5000m mark the first weekend of December off of her XC season. Since then, she has just been running mediocre 3000ms against the pros. I would not pick her to win either the 3000 or 5000.
I like Heymach in the mile. 2:02/4:09/8:59/15:33. Everything about that seems like someone who can go somewhere in the 4:25-4:27 range in the right race.
I saw the same in Wayment. McCabe had some sort of injury over the winter. Lauren Ryan seems hot and cold. If I had to pick I'll take Butler in 800, Mackay in mile but agree Heymach could do it too (but maybe 2 races Friday vs 1 for Mackay), Roe in 3,000 (fully rested), 5,000 is wide open - if I could make a bet I might even put some $ on that 15th seed. If Heymach does not do DMR maybe I choose her in mile. I still don't know what is going on with Wayment being in 5,000 and DMR 20 minutes apart. Agree NC State would be stronger with a Tuohy anchor, but she is in 5,000 so it will be Shaw. I have to go with Ole Miss on DMR with Vissa. Without this DMR leg I would pick her in mile.
so I missed on Mackay not even making the mile final, hit on Roe and Butler, missed on Ole Miss DMR (did not see Arkansas that strong without 2 major pieces and they put Vissa in a deep hole), no pick on 5000 if I had made the bet on Tuohy I would have lost close there. Both Arkansas and Ole Miss seemed a little off this weekend. Wayment was not as invincible as some thought, but she did win the 5000. McCabe was not the same runner we saw in November/December. Lauren Ryan I can't figure out - sometimes very good but inconsistent.

Now, find me who picked Degenero to win the mile!
I wonder if McCabe needs a huge aerobic base (6+ mos injury-free) for full fitness and didn't come close to that for Birmingham. I thought the 3000 was her's--as you put it, the Nov/Dec runner's--to lose, but should've seen the writing on the wall after that Big 12 mile. No more doubting Tuohy's kick and racing smarts. On the speculation front, I'm keeping my sizable stack of McCabe stock and would wager that both she and Tuohy take down Sisson's 15:12 Indoor 5k mark by 2025--if they're still amateurs in three yrs.
Tuohy fans might hate to hear it, but she has Bowerman written all over her, IMO. McCabe, I kinda hope she lands w/ Ritz at OAC (if the company's shoe game evolves).

tuohy just went to her first ever ncaa track championships and yall already prospecting her to go to bowerman track club
i mean, cant we all just let her be a college runner first?
Didn't Tuohy also finish second in individual points earned behind Florida's Jasmine Moore?
Florida, BTW, demonstrates that it takes sprints and the field to win a team title.
I think you are right, although FL also had Grace Stark with 15. I think what it shows if you have several elite athletes you can do real well. There aren't enough distance races so you need at least some scorers in the sprints or field events - FL just had a whole lot of them and nothing in the distance. The NAU men podiumed with just three distance runners.

I would love to see Tuohy with Bowerman. If she stays with adidas, what are her options? She is a team oriented person. She will thrive with a strong team.
She will not be in college for 3 more years though!
BTC has a knack of identifying people who have huge potential. Maybe start with the 2 women who won the 3k and 5k? How about Mackay? McCabe, Ryan, Valby, etc. Tuntivate was a decent runner in college who BTC saw something special in.
