Why would someone who is probably the best female runner to perhaps ever come out of Ohio sign with a perennial bottom-feeder like Penn State?

Beth can BS with the best of them.
Franek is seriously the goods - ran 4:43 mile completely alone last Spring to beat the Ohio record.
What's not to like:
State College is a great college town with a small-town feel. It is a beautiful area secluded from most distractions. There are miles of trails in nearly every direction. Facilities are solid. A good conference. It can be done there. PSU had some fantastic women's teams years ago. I am not up on the current criticism of the coach but know there is some, so I hope it is a good move for this talented girl.
One correction: Franek's 1600 time does not eclipse the state record for the mile of 4:44 of Ann Henderson, although Franek was ill enough at the state meet that she didn't run the Friday 4 X 800. She should have a shot at it this spring.
Beth,
You are not from Ohio, and, get back to work, 361 more days until your team doesn't make nationals again next year.
What a shame!!! Beth will ruin this girl as she has the past top recruits. Injury and eating disorders plague the team and Beth does nothing but promote it. What a waste of talent!!! The only thing Beth does well is promote herself. But this will catch up to her.
You are correct in the Bridget's 4:45 is not intrinsically superior to Ann Henderson's mile record, but the OHSAA doesn't recognize the mile records. This, despite the fact that John Zishka's 4:03 mile and Jeff See's 4:04 mile are superior to Bob Kennedy's 4:05-1600.
You are also correct in saying that Bridget would have a good shot at Ann's mile mark. She ran 4:49 at the Nike Outdoor National meet last year and is obviously much fitter this year judging by her xc times.
Another poster characterized Penn State as perennial bottom feeders. I would disagree with that as they have been very highly ranked in past years and appear to be well on their way to a stellar recruiting class with Bridget and Cheryl Spring from Texas.
Beth, you are NOT from Ohio!
All I know about the Penn State coaches is from one experience, but it wasn't good. I used to do a subjective top 25 ranking for Trackshark.com. I got a nasty e-mail from them once for ranking their team around #20. I patiently explained that even though they were the best women's team in the Big Ten, that didn't mean too much because nobody else in the conference was very good either, and they were clearly inferior pretty much all the teams ranked ahead of them. They just wouldn't give up on it though and I finally told them to shove it up their asses.
Not Beth, but just another N/E Ohioan
Whatcha talkin about Willis, I aint Beth and I AM from Ohio sizzlechest.
If that's all you know Jesse, then why don't you keep it to yourself for a change. I swear that you and Flagpole Willy are related.
It's all about you and your sensitive little feelings you douchebag.
is she related to Dan Franek who ran in SF and then in Oregon??
MF
I heard JSquire and Flagpole Willy once took on Jason Rexing in a cage match, with him blindfolded and with handcuffs on...He proceed to taunt the two like a bullfighter until finally he smashed them into one another...completely destroying the shameful legacy of both....
Jesse is right on the mark with Penn State. Beth spends way to much time trying to promote herself and the program rather than backing it up with performances. Face it, she is a self promoter, not a coach!
Yeah she is Dan Franek's niece
Her Uncle Dan ran for Ohio State when Crogan was there.
If Rob Gary is coaching the ladies now, wonder if he had a shot at landing her? OSU is down, but so is Penn State.
Great! Soon I can get on the "most annoying poster thread". All my hard work is paying off!
Rob Gary is not coaching the women and since Bridget already signed a letter of intent, then no, she won't be running for Ohio State.
Jesse, don't be too proud of being annoying.
It's called a "joke".

To correct other posters, Gary IS now coaching the women with help from his assistant Chad Myers. I am aware that OHSAA no longer recognizes non-metric distances, but that doesn't mean they do not exist. It just means they are lazy with their record keeping.
truer, Franek told OSU she had no interest and wanted to go out of state. OSU is down, but they are heading in the right direction. Slowly, but they are improving.
