I will admit to being in a minority. I suspect that utility man is right on and even splits are the biologically most efficient way to run any distance longer than about 200m. The poster will admit that Dr. Daniels or somebody hasn't proven this, but he's right by pointing out that no team of scientists with elite runners on treadmills have proof to the contrary.
Brazier actually did this (relatively even split) once. I'm sure some of you remember the race. It was accidental. He was told to start out in last to see if he could get through the crowd - not a given indoors. The last lap went unbelievably well. He was not rigging due to an unrealistically fast start. These guys aren't 'deciding' to make the last 200 the slowest of the race; they are all-out and falling apart.
