How would you modify this eight day schedule, and why, for a marathon runner in a base training phase? Male, Age 42, three prior marathons 3:03 to 3:10 in last three years on 50 mpw. Yes, I would gradually upgrade my current 50ish miles per week to this 70 mpw, done as 80 miles in an 8 day cycle. I would start the 10 milers as 7s and the 20 miler as 14, increasing the runs a bit each week for several months.
Day 1: Harder: Ten miles marathon pace
Day 2: Easier: Ten miles 2 min per mile over marathon pace
Day 3: Harder: Ten miles marathon pace
Day 4 Easier: Ten miles 2 min per mile over marathon pace
Day 5 Harder: Ten miles marathon pace
Day 6 Easier: Ten miles 2 min per mile over marathon pace
Day 7 Harder: Twenty miles 2 min per mile over marathon pace
Day 8 Off: No running
