Any idea what's going on over there? I'm sure this is at least in part due to non-renewal of a few contracts, though Fauble and Linkletter make it sound like it was their choice to leave.

Scott Smith retired.
Also wondering what's going on. Could it be Hoka's doing? Keep in mind Beaverton ditched Meb right before he won Boston. Perhaps his greatest race ever. I certainly see upside in Linkletter.
I've never heard of any of these guys before this thread
it was their choice, shoes and training.
Who?
Bc of the loss of some type of financial support most likely.

seriously? Sometimes I wonder at the complete ignorance at the majority of posters on this site - including the brojo's sometimes.
Don't worry, they know who he is, they just think it's hilarious to repeat the same joke over and over again for 20 years.
My gut tells me that Ben got the best out of the Two Scotts (even though Hoka has the least super Supershoe). Fauble is 30 and since the American field is a lot more crowded now, he probably feels like he has to try something different so he can try to move up to the next tier.
Linkletter has not really progressed in his time at NAZ.
NAZ elite has long been one of the WORST groups out there. Their athletes improve significantly LESS than what you'd expect with natural improvement due to age. It's quite pathetic.
It's less an implosion than it is a culling. Occam's razor suggests that four guys leaving a pro group at the same time isn't four individual decisions. It's one decision.

No.

Yeah. Not at all correct. Ben did a good job with Fauble and Smith.

No Olympics means no funds. Schools, World Athletics, USATF have been cutting office staff so those remaining get a XMAX bonus.

It looks like Fauble and Linkletter left on their own and Vaughn was nudged out (reading between the lines). Smith's retirement is just that and not surprising for someone turning 36 years old next Summer who had a solid career and has probably accomplished all he was going to as an athlete.

From a fan's prospective, I love how NAZ rolls. The group is transparent. They've help produce some interesting content (a documentary about the trials lead up, Fitzgerald's book, Inside a Marathon, training logs are posted on online, etc.). The group is clean.
Most of the members are on social media.
As an aside, Fauble has a great sense of humor of social, but he's also grumpy as hell.
agreed, seemed like maybe Ben let the team know.. hey if you've been thinking of trying something different know is the time cause we have to trim the roster based on a poor 2021..
The group got too big, Ben did his best work when the group was small. He also seemed to be running them into the ground when they weren't getting the results he wanted. I recall one workout that was 15 miles at marathon pace and only one guy finished, if you have to stop at mile 13 you aren't running marathon pace. I did enjoy the book Inside a Marathon that Ben wrote with Faubs.
