Gross six figures? He's making well north of 6 figures per year. 200k wouldn't stun me. No American collegian has ever run faster for the mile or 5000. Yes I know it's the super shoe era but with so many teams out there guys that used to make 40-50 out of college are now making 60-80 and guys that never competed for NCAA champs but were like maybe 3rd are getting 100k.
If Justyn Knight - a Canadian was getting like 400 - this guy should be at least getting close to half that. Equalling it wouldn;t actually even shock me, particularly if he went for some brand we'd barely heard of. But since he stayed with Nike, I assume he's taking a hometown discount.
400k for doing what.? Hardly racing, being injured often. Justin talks big but cannot perform big.
3:33
12:51
Olympic finalist
2x World champs finalist
Ncaa xc champ
Ncaa 5k champ
The dude is 25. Please point out where JK doesn’t “perform big”.

Damn, that's impressive to see it listed like that. And he's just one year old than Mantz.
Knight says Cole and Cooper were his two current favorite track athletes earlier this year. He's making over 350 a year my guess.
He's making slightly less than Cole Hocker. I've got Hocker at $200k/year base and Teare at $150k/base with solid performance bonuses.
Listen, money is a joke. My dad and I were cracking up about the Corey Seager contract, 10yr, $325M for what? A shortstop that is mediocre? Those ARod contracts are starting to look like a bargain.
$150k seems like a lot to pay a guy who might, at best, finish 6th in the Olympics. Nike could sponsor five Kenyans with a lot more potential for the same money
But Kenyans ain’t white boys that Americans relate to. They don’t get the attention our great white hopes do.

None of my business, but wish contracts were publicized like other sports.
Unless they are so embarrassingly low (like Indy ball for baseball) that it would lend itself to being made fun of? Tell me he'll gross six figures for a full Olympic cycle at least?
Some are and some aren't (embarrassingly low). I just think they don't want people to know to use it as leverage.
I DO wish they'd publish it.
I know a current pro who, when signed out of college in the early 2000's told me the extent of her contract.
Base pay wasn't much. bonuses could have (and did) lead to a lot of money and she wasn't a Nike athlete.
No, I don't have proof and I won't name the person.
I can also tell you another one I was related to by marriage was an OT steepler and made 4K a year plus measly bonuses from Nike. He didn't last in the sport. I'm not saying he deserved more but with more he may have developed into a better runner.

How many African American distance runners are there coming out of university each year that are even sponsorship potential?
What you might see as bias is nothing more than having nothing to pick from. Hence, your perseveration on “white boys”.
Teare has also historically been at the forefront of New Gen T&F, together with Ben Crawford. Irrespective of his running potential, the marketing opportunities with high schoolers and the like are pretty good, and fill a gap in Nike's marketing portfolio.
I despise racists like you. Who are the top paid American runners? Kerley, Coleman, Lyles, Bednarek, Holloway, Brazier. Shoe companies pay Americans what they are worth without considering their skin color. That's how companies earn money.

Guess it shows you how dead the sport is when the guy who got 350th place can sign a pro contract
Teare is a stud with actual NCAA titles and records.
Time to go back to knob-schlobbin your 11th place hero with titles or records, beta-boi

I know, and they give Bekele even more when he DNFs half the time. Can't even finish races that 300 pound hobby joggers do.
When was his last DNF? HALF THE TIME? You are mental.
Congrats to Cooper.

The world is not fair nor is it a meritocracy. Income is based largely on popularity and sometimes popular mediocrity get handsomely rewarded. Is Meghan Thee Stallion a generational musical talent? Not by a long shot but, her songs sell because a lot of people seem to like them. What about Marvel movies? Great groundbreaking cinema or mindless action that is just fun to watch?
Fair or not, Kenyans do not sell shoes. American high school boys will rush out to buy whatever Cooper and Cole are wearing. High school girls will also buy Nike gear because they think that Cooper is cute and funny (the girls that I coach adore the guy and hang on his Instagram posts, don't get me started on their universal Craig Engels crush.).

I hope all those guys are well-compensated. They are all either global champions or multiple-medalists at global champs. I doubt we'll ever be saying that for any of the US distance runners currently signing pro deals.
I’ve never been less surprised
They were signed before that. How about Knighton? When was he signed?
Who are the top Americans in each event and are they on contract? yes. What is their skin color? It doesn't matter. If Teare was black, he would have the same contract that he has.
$200k seems low for Hocker. He's the US champ, ran 3:31 to finish 6th in the Olympics, is coming off one of the greatest college seasons ever and is only 20 years old.
Not true. We already discussed the potentially racist nature of the un-signing of Cheserek. Black. Greatest collegiate distance runner in NCAA history. No Nike contract.

I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
