Looks like his flopping publicity stunt to steal the limelight paid off.

Yeah running 3:50 and 13:12 probably had nothing to do with it.
Surprised he signed before Mantz, after that complete embarrassment in Tallahassee.
Not shocking at all.
Chris Chavez on Twitter: ".@OregonTF’s @CooperTeare, the reigning NCAA 5,000m champion, announces that he’s turned pro and signed with Nike.
Guess it shows you how dead the sport is when the guy who got 350th place can sign a pro contract

Guess it shows you that even getting 350th place, he still got a contract and you didn't lol...congrats to the guy. He worked for it over the summer. 4th best in the US is worth a pretty penny.

Alright, experts. How much more do we think Hocker makes than Teare?
Hardly any.
50% more
Twice as much
3 x
4 x
6 x
8 x
im still kind of puzzled by coops meltdown in cross, but he was close to making the olympic team in the 5k and his mile PR is not too shabby either. think coop and cole have a nice symbiotic relationship going, but might not last if cole actually ascends to that next level.
None of my business, but wish contracts were publicized like other sports.
Unless they are so embarrassingly low (like Indy ball for baseball) that it would lend itself to being made fun of? Tell me he'll gross six figures for a full Olympic cycle at least?
2x
8x because Cole Hocker actually made it to the Olympics.
Unless everything I thought I knew about contracts and leverage is dead and passe and it is all about leveraging a voice into fame by whatever means, such as notoriety for dancing at the start line of hurdles or for being tough enough to crawl across the finish line when your legs won't support you, rather than performing when it counts and going pro in the crowning moments of great achievements such as running 3:50/13:12 or 3:50/U.S. championship/3:31, it seems less than ideal as a moment to turn pro for him. I hope Tallahassee was just a blip for him and he realizes that mighty pro potential that I was attributing to him here on this site back when he was a senior in high school.

Gross six figures? He's making well north of 6 figures per year. 200k wouldn't stun me. No American collegian has ever run faster for the mile or 5000. Yes I know it's the super shoe era but with so many teams out there guys that used to make 40-50 out of college are now making 60-80 and guys that never competed for NCAA champs but were like maybe 3rd are getting 100k.
If Justyn Knight - a Canadian was getting like 400 - this guy should be at least getting close to half that. Equalling it wouldn;t actually even shock me, particularly if he went for some brand we'd barely heard of. But since he stayed with Nike, I assume he's taking a hometown discount.

I know, and they give Bekele even more when he DNFs half the time. Can't even finish races that 300 pound hobby joggers do.
When youre the greatest of all time you can charge money just to show up.

This was funny.
400k for doing what.? Hardly racing, being injured often. Justin talks big but cannot perform big.
