I am very short with people who want to talk about it. I try not to be rude, but I'm not gonna keep the conversation going, and i dont find it difficult to change the subject.
When I meet someone new, I make it a point not to bring up running. I like to see how long I can maintain a friendship without them knowing that I run.
I hate them, really. It's just about to the point that I wish no non-runner even knew I run. I'm just sick of their reactions to my running. Tired of the stupid comments and questions we've all heard a hundred times.
So...how far did you run today?
An easy 10.
10 miles????!!!! How can THAT be easy?
So...how far is this week's marathon?
It's not a marathon, it's a 10K
How far is that?
6.2 miles.
I don't even like to drive that far! I can't even run a mile.
How do you run when it's so cold? (Usually asked on a day with a low temp. of 50 degrees).
You don't look like you need to run.
You'll ruin your knees.
Plus so many others. The next time a non-runner asks me about my running, I'm going to run...far, far away from the person.
Know what you mean. But what the hey, it’s just another topic. What’s wrong with carrying on a non-technical general chat? Bail as needed.
