Well that makes sense since the water is still warm-ish. This time of year, places near the water are moderated. In the spring, places near the water are colder.

Yeah? Explain lake-effect snow then.

Forget it. The city traps in heat like a mothereffer. I haven’t been in a while, so I forgot.
Huge props to Coach Joan Hunter, who is doing something right, as three of her guys finished in the top 8:
>>Son Drew Hunter with the win
>>Brian Barazza in 6th
>>Joey Berriatua in 8th.
The great Paul Chelimo has had a long year, of course. Today, despite his arrogant pre-race prediction, as if it would be a sure thing, he finished 18th. I have little doubt that we'll see him shine again.
But right now, WAY TO GO, 'STACHE DUDE (a.k.a. Drew Hunter)! WAY TO GO, JOAN HUNTER! WAY TO GO, TINMAN ELITE! I'd say that three in the top eight, and Drew's win over 2016 1500 Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz and two-time Olympic 5k medalist (silver, 2016 and bronze, 2020 ['21]) Paul Chelimo, are nothing to sneeze at. It ain't the Olympics or the World Championships, but it's Drew's second National Championship victory - and first since rebounding from some adversity earlier in 2021. Barazza and Berriatua are also part of that rebound.
And it shows that Drew's potential for the future is there - DESPITE ALL THE CRAP HE WILL CONTINUE TO GET ON LRC regarding his form, having his mom as his coach, and a divorce from a former coach.
Weini Kelati really showed her competitors in the women's 5k that she's a force to be reckoned with. WAY TO GO, WEINI!
The post-race video segment showing Drew Hunter and Weini Kelati side by side was a reminder of a 2015 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships post-race photo showing the same two - the winners that year - standing together and posing with their hardware, as seen here:

Thanks to USATF and RunnerSpace for broadcasting the race. Good job, Paul Swangard, Jenny Simpson, and Carrie Tollefson. Thanks for posting results, Rojo.
Tinmom Stock to the moon!
You know running is in a bad spot when 3 of the top 10 finishes at a “championship race” are Tinman elite runners lol
Well the Tinman runners are fresh seeing as they didn't even qualify for the Olympic Trials.

I’d hardly qualify Chelimo’s statement as arrogant. He said he thought that he was going to win. He came off a lot less arrogant than you.
not sure whats going on with chelimo. terrible at the 5th ave mile (not really his specialty) but then seemed like a brutal run today. he has said before he is terrible in colder weather, but dont think that could explain this
Well, I guess Joan Hunter proves again that she can coach, not that I ever had any doubts, and Drew Hunter proves that he is a talent who only needs health to be nationally competitive at this distance. I like the fact that he prevailed in the kick of a close race over a thirteen flat guy with a kick even more than just winning the race. Paul Chelimo's Olympic medal and U.S. championship in the Trials are all he needed to do to prove himself again this year. He'll be his same old self when it counts next year and every year until he's old. Glad to see Centro running longer stuff in the fall. Running xc was always a key portion of his off-seasons when he was at his best.
Did Chelimo shut it down we he realized he didn't have it or did he die hard?
