NATIONALS WON'T BE AT ALTITUDE!!! GOOD RACE FROM HICKS AND THE BUFFS BUT, THEY HAD A BIG ADVANTAGE TODAY IN SLC.
ALSO, WHY ARE WE SHOUTING?!!!

So based on your logic, NAU will be at a disadvantage at the national meet also.
Why try to lessen Colorado’s win just because they were at altitude?
Actually, at the national meet, the schools at altitude will stil have an advantage because they will still have increased hemoglobin due to training and living at altitude. Going way down in elevation, close to sea level, doesn’t automatically decrease their hemoglobin.

Shhh! Also, PAC-12 results have Hicks as a freshman, but he is a junior with a lot of international experience. Great performance by a 27:48 10,000 meter man.
Andy Powell aggressively pelvic thrusting in the general direction of Ben Thomas and Robert Johnson.

Stanford 2nd with top 6 all freshmen, 7th is a sophomore!
https://www.tfrrs.org/results/xc/18961Altitude based teams have greater advantage when racing at altitude than at sea level. This same thing comes up every year with these time conversions nonsense.
Oh that track time is worth X:XX because it was run at altitude. Obviously altitude hurts everyone, but it hurts altitude-based runners a lot less than it hurts sea level runners.
For example look at the Kenyan trials. If those times would be converted to sea level they would all be world record or near world record holders over there, but they were terrible in the 5k and 10k at the Olympics.

Glad to see UW with a solid showing, but now there's two more big meets.
Stanford looking real strong and possibly a 20 year anniversary of their 2003 dominance come 2023 Nats

Stanford missing Boyden & Principe who had been top-7 until now. Also missing DiDonato who had been the team's top true frosh. Don't know for sure but they are likely injured. Given they were shorthanded and racing Colorado at altitude, Stanford did really well to stay within 13 points of the Buffs.
Big Hairy Question: Does Charles Hicks now join Mantz, Kiptoo and Wildschutt as co-favorites for the national title? Today's 9 sec win over Teare is the same margin that Kiptoo beat Teare at Nuttycomb with Hicks a second behind Teare. Mantz beat Kiptoo by 1 second at Griak. Wildschutt and Kiptoo just scored big wins today at ACCs and Big-12s, respectively. They all are better at 10k, their best event on the track.
Mantz, being the returning champ, is likely the slight favorite, but appears he'll have plenty of company. Don't expect a final mile runaway like last year.
I also wouldn't count out Nico Young. I think he is in it as well. And even though Teare lost by a large margin, I wouldn't count out Cooper either.

I wouldn't give him a full nod for being a contender, but he certainly has some chops to bring to the top-10. Fast, flat, low-stakes conf meets are the strongest indicators for the Big Day.

So . . . Did everyone in NCAA get an extra year because of Covid? Hicks is currently a Junior academically that redshirted his Freshman year, but competed and finished 14th at Nationals as an academic sophmore. This may explain why he is listed as a Freshman.
He just turned 20 and his 27:47 as a 19 year old is the Euro and UK under-20 record. Not bad for a kid from Jacksonville.

Agree, I think Hicks is in that next tier below Mantz, Kiptoo, Wildschutt. Of the three, I actually think Wildschutt might be the slight favorite right now.
What happened to the UW's Sam Tanner? Injured? Redshirting?

Drew Bosley will be a top-7 if not top-5 guy at NCAAs as well.
