That's funny, I've gone 800 miles in the same 1400s. Best shoe ever.

I have a 4 month training block coming up where I’ll average 80 miles per week. Wondering how many pairs of shoes I’ll need. Everywhere I look says 300-500 miles. Anybody had luck running fast and not getting injured while running 500+ miles?
One of these mileage per shoe threads should be archived since it comes up so often.
Most college or pro runners I know were getting somewhere between 400 to low 500s per pair. Some even said after 300 miles they could feel a difference and changed shoes out. 5 or 6 years ago I was easily getting 600+ miles out of a pair of shoes and everything still felt fine. In fact, I probably would have been fine for a couple hundred more miles but I was getting free shoes and just changed them when I was getting around 650 out of habit. Now I usually start to fine the shoe falling apart around 550-600 miles. Whatever changes have been made to the soles have caused them to fall apart much quicker. I have soles well worn away at a much lower mileage now. Also, I've had issues with the uppers of the shoes getting ripped over time which was never an issue 5 years ago. I assume its the way they construct shoes since I'm still the same size and running at a similar level. Maybe shoemakers have caught onto the concept of designing things to fail at a specific point.
350-400. I’m happy to pay $200 more per year to have less injury risk.
They also last longer if you have multiple pairs you rotate - wearing shoes every day wears then out more even for the same number of miles.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
