Calling for him to turn himself on and knowing where he is are different things. Asking him to turn himself in is meaningless anyway. I would choose the possibility of somehow starting a new life somewhere over the certainty of 20+ years in prison.
Of course, if they don’t know where he is, they can't help the police locate him.
You asked what we would do if we were his parents, and it's the right thing. The family can ALWAYS help even if they don't know where he is. They can tell them places he is familiar with, what his survival skills are like, whether he took food, money, supplies with him, contact them if he calls, etc.
He probably hopped on a bus and it doesn't matter what places he's familiar with. I seriously doubt he is living in the wilderness. Where is he going to find water and does he have a bow and arrow? The most important supply is cash and he probably had some left from what he stole from Gabby. For sure, he's not going to call his parents.
In response to the other poster, what's a white guy that doesn't speak Spanish going to do in the Dominican to survive? Does Laundrie have a 95mph fastball? The poster should imagine himself arriving in a country where he doesn't speak the language.
