Very solid 2:15* marathon debut for 3:57 miler Jacob Thompson.
Rupp's 2:06* is only a half minute off his PR, surely a conditions-converted PR. He only needs to show up in this same shape for a time trial setup to get the AR.
TME's Reed Fisher in 2:14* .. meh .. still not living up to his 1:01 half.
* tougher conditions
Hi my name is Drew! And, I'm feeling the energy. Flashdance is my favorite movie. I run a lot. I can be your friend, but not that kind of friend.
I understand that Hall has had more success than any other American marathoner during the course of covid, save for Molly's bronze medal. But today almost felt like a circus show. Everyone can have a bad race, and it was good to see her still fight to the finish. But even in good conditions, she was so far off of AR fitness. It seemed bullish to be talking about the record so much when it appears she wasn't in close to that shape. Then she has a flank of male pacemakers just for her who run the full 26 miles, they have her husband/coach FaceTime into the broadcast, and showed her on TV more than Ruth the first half of the race. All while Emma Bates quietly runs nearly perfectly even splits, and finishes second. Why couldn't one of those three male pacers gone with Emma to help her push to the finish? It was just odd to watch, as it almost seemed like the broadcast/race setup was pulling for Hall to win.
final women's results printout, USA gets 6 in top 10 in a historically shallow international field:

Props to Keira, the Running Realtor from Richmond! 2:28:22 for 4th place. Not bad for a real estate agent, mother of two who had a tarsal coalition that kept her from running for years surgically removed.. Kudos to her surgeon!

Rojo goes home DEVASTATED! Rupp gets second. I was thinking third was the best he would do. That was a good run.
I don’t get the long standing hate for Rupp. You have endless busts from Kenya. Shelburrito gets properly busted. Yet Rupp is the bad guy. It is weird mental gymnastics.
Hate is a strong word. I was cheering for Rupp here, but:
- banned drug cheat coach
- "testosterone medication"
- "likely doping" according to ABP
- highly likely using a forbidden method
- suspicious testo spike according to ABP
So much smoke!

Emma only elite to run a negative split?
Yep, her was very fortunate that the surgeon picked up the correct diagnosis.
Great racing by Rupp today, proved he's still a contender and is thriving under Mike Smith.
Reminded me alot of Bill Rodgers back in the day, letting people get way ahead of him but running the perfect, tactical race.

can i ask what is so tough about these conditions? yes it was hot, I get that. Rupp still managed to run fast. 74 is warm but that isn't blazing, and it was a lot cooler at the start.
Guys like reed Fischer were being bullish about 2:10. I don't think you go from 2:10 to 2:14 cause its a little warm out, but I also might just be a massive d!ck with my analysis here.

Am i the only American who roots for the AFrican guys to beat Rupp at the end of these races?
You've made your stance clear that you support drug cheats, going with the Africans lines up nicely with your pro-drug philosophy.
EPO > L Carnatine
Any update on how Jordan Tropf did/is doing?
Yeah i bet the leaders where yoyoing quite a bit. rupp is smart and self-assured, he doesn't need to cover every move 15k in

I'm glad he was excited to do so well. He was very emotional.
He and Pinkowski must be close. He just kissed race director Carey Pinkowski!!! I've always wondered why h e comes to Chicago and not NY every year. That may play a role.
Along with being an easy course, Chicago's an easier and more comfortable big city to visit and stay in before a marathon than NYC. That could be a factor too.
Factor No. 1:
Chicago Marathon has financial sponsorship from Nike.
