I have a 6k race next weekend and am already looking ahead.
Did a 4 x mile repeat workout on Wednesday on a hilly loop. Felt tired but did better than I thought.
7:25, 7:15, 7:11, 6:58 were my times in that order. Definitely didn't feel all out (mile PR in low 5:40s) and could've done another rep. Felt great up the hills.
However, last race, I started out too fast for my current fitness, and absolutely blew it so I don't have a baseline. Gonna try to warm up a lot more and get more sleep and just hope for the best.
Is 7:10-7:15/mi for the 6k too ambitious or not ambitious enough? Coach thinks I can go out faster (7:05) while still negative/even split. I was thinking: 7:15 - 7:15 - 7:10 - and then 7:05 ish for last 0.73.... PRs in the 5k are very low 21s, but I was in better shape then(end of season). Could probably do 21/22 5k now, but if I pace better (not go out in 6:30) I'm hopeful I could come through 5k mark around 22:25 for this race.
Any input?
I'm just looking to improve my own times, clearly not gonna be anywhere near front of pack!
