LRC probably not the case to ask this, but what the hell
Does anyone on these boards suffer from General Anxiety Disorder?
For the last 3-4 years its been making my life fairly miserable. Diagnosed after I went to the doctors thinking something was physically wrong, but he told me I was one of the most anxious people he had ever seen.
I have no idea why it all started - have always been a little 'nervous' but the recently its making some days hard to get through. It follows a predictable routine whereby I struggle at work (symptoms are WAAAAAAAAAYYY less at weekends), come home exhausted, and then after chilling out for a while come around again and am generally ok in the evening. The physical symptoms are really unpleasant (muscle tension / rapid breathing / sweating / dry mouth / cant get my words out) and make it better for me in the short term to avoid anything I might find stressful. Today I had a (perfectly pleasant) meeting with my manager and almost needed a lie down afterwards.
I'm on a low dose SSRI which I'm not sure does much or not (it certainly made things awful temporarily) and have tried CBT. Although this seemed to do 'some' good, the problem is I don't know exactly what I am anxious about specifically. What I have definitely found helpful is exercise (but I cant run ALL the time!) and avoiding coffee. Its fairly chronic now though and I'm essentially just managing myself through the days.
Any similar experiences / advice?
