I recently invested an incredible amount of time training for a marathon that I completed this month. I put my heart and soul into it, running 100-120 miles per week for a good amount of the training cycle. All of my time trials indicated I was fit for sub 2:37 marathon (15:30 5k; 32:00 10k) and lots of marathon pace distance workouts. I saw this marathon as a stepping stone to future possibilities of dipping into the 2:20's.
Unfortunately, I just absolutely did not have a good day and ended running 2:46 which was slightly slower than my previous PR. Hit the right splits for the first 18 miles and then just ate sh!t to finish.
After all the build up, I'm so disappointed. Where do I go from here? Is 2:45 pretty much my peak and I should just stop?
31 y/o male. Have improved my time in each of the 4 marathons that I've run until this past one (3:30, 3:14. 2:53, 2:45)
