This city is great. Always has been. Beautiful place, vibrant even in Covid, friendly people. There are people experiencing homelessness, but I wouldn't say it's significantly worse than other large cities I've been to. And I've never understood the disgust such people are held in - it's part of the human condition all over the world. Frankly, I like chatting with homeless people and giving them a few bucks. They are harmless and interesting.
If you actively go looking for active hardcore drug addicts, you will find them in the Tenderloin district, but again, no more than in any other large city I've been to (and I've been many places).
I hadn't been to San Francisco in about six years, and was worried that some of the reporting on Fox and comments from Fox fans might be correct and the city had somehow lost its beauty and intensity. It hasn't. The Fox reporting has been massively exaggerated. There aren't needles all over the ground, no human waste all over the streets, and I didn't see any stores being looted. Take what Fox says (and everything CNN or NBS ever says) with a grain of salt.
I encourage everyone to experience San Francisco at least once in their lives. An amazing American city.
