So is the 6x1k at goal race pace with 2 minutes rest a good 5k prediction workout to do? I’ve seen many people say it is a good workout for better 5k. Is this true

Yes. Maybe lower the rest to 90 seconds but yeah you on the right track!

Dumb idea. How would we know if your ‘goal’ race pace is realistic or not? My goal 5k pace is 4:45 but I’m sure as hell not running any k’s at that pace unless I want to obliterate my legs and it’s too far off to be relevant anyway. ‘Goal’ pace isn’t a training pace, it’s RACE pace.
You are silly. 6xk should be done slightly faster than 5k pace.
You seem like a real jack ass
OMG... go out and do some 1k reps as fast as possible to vent out that anger guys.
Doing a workout like this at a 5k pace can test if that pace is right, test if the performance is right for a good 5k or adjust the goal pace going into a 5k race. I think it anyway builds confidence. Then it also sharpens the performance and enhances the MAXLASS (max lactate steady state) capability used in a peaking period.
Depending on the pace 1ks are not that long and are actually a tiny tad short to be spot on 5k race pace. That is why the rest should be less than 2. A lot of longer rep volume of 5k pace for a fast runners is taxing (for a slow runner, 5k pace can be less taxing and OK) I see some use 4xmile which would be even more taxing and require a tad more speed endurance and would give increased confidence the 5k pace can be managed.
Everyone is different but this workout never worked out for me, it always overestimated my 5k pace. I think it would be closer if the rest is cut to 90 seconds or less. Maybe even do a cutdown rest - start at 2 mins, cut down by 15 seconds after each rep. Your last rep will be tough but that gets you closer to how it will feel in a race. If you want to keep the 2 mins rest then you should jog it at easy run pace.

You seem like you get nailed by one in the stall, nightly.
6-8 x 1k on 90 sec recovery at theoretical 5km pace is a great replacement for a long run for speed based 800m runners.
6x1k with 90s - 120s rest is around 5k pace yes. If I'm able to run around 14 flat for a 5k this means I will be doing them at a bit below 2:50 which is true. Maybe 120s rest is too much for a true prediction though, I'd say more like 60-90s.
don’t worry my goal race pace is def realistic
👍🏼
Good luck, but why not just run a time trial instead of racing a workout???
You make no sense. Doing 6xk at 5k pace is much less taxing than racing a 5k at the same pace.

Is that what you believe because someone posted it here??? You are appropriately named!

Man, you guys like to split hairs for workouts. 5 or 6 doesn't matter and just run how you feel.
yours truly is planning to do 6 x 1K with 2 minute jog/walk rest tomorrow. shooting for low 3:30s with a track 5K coming up on the 15th. i will let y'all know how it goes and what i end up running. however, i'm not really an ideal subject to see if this workout is a good predictor since i'm still far from peak lifetime fitness levels. my goal is to break 18:00 but i've run dozens of 5Ks in the low 17s in my life. PR is 16:13 from 11 years ago.
I have a meet I’m tryna run fast for on the 19th. I’m also doing the 1k repeats in 3:30 because my goal is to run 17:30 for 5k
I have a 13:45 5k PR. I assume that I have a bit more experience doing workouts than you do.

he could have a 5k time literally double that and still be right
