We just went through the recruiting process with our kid and were really impressed with some of the coaches our kid met with. These are the coaches that really seemed to care about the athletes and were working hard to create a positive team culture as apart of their vision for success. Happy to pass this info along for your high school athletes in no particular order:
*Eastern Michigan - Mark Rinker (Coach cares deeply about his athletes and he's building a team culture with strong family-feel. Men ranked 7th in Great Lakes Region and just won MAC conference title.)
*Cal State Fullerton - Alex Tebbe (Very cool and supportive coach. Men ranked 15th in West Region and top male runner just won conference in 23:34 and top 5 all under 25 minutes for 8K. Top female won also and women got 2nd.)
*Portland State - Josh Seitz (Coach has infectious positivity and good humor. Team is transitioning to distance only focus. Men ranked 13th in the West Region. Teams ran well at conference in Big Sky)
*George Washington University - Samantha Nadel (She is actually the Asst. Coach in charge of recruiting, but we were really impressed with her. She comes from UNC and seems to be bringing that experience to GW. Since she got there they went from unranked to both men and women being ranked in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Hope this helps! We spoke to a lot of coaches but these few really stood out as being unique in their focus on team culture and vision for their teams. We did speak to some Power 5 coaches, but this list speaks to your inquiry of "up-and-coming".
