People were saying how weak our team was after the trials. It only may have appeared weak because it had two guys who are only 24 and a 28 year old, and they had a year of international competition taken away from them due to Covid. And the slowest of the three is a 13:06 5k guy... Tell me how that's a weak 10,000 meter team? And then they backed it up having as good a showing as any. So dating back past 1972 olympics only Galen Rupp has placed better than Grant Fisher's 5th place finish. Grant ties for the second best USA olympic 10k finish in over 50 years, and then our 2nd and 3rd guys are better than our 2nd and 3rd guys usually are. So this was our best 10k squad ever, only London may have been slightly better because of Rupp's silver medal.
