he def doesnt look as fit as someone like yee, luis, iden or pearson.
Blummenfelt looks about as fit as he can be. He also looks mid 40s, not a guy in his 20s.
Triathlon coverage was abysmal At least they showed a few snippets of the last few km of the run and the first few finishers.
In the last few K, Blummenfelt looked to be digging hard, face grimaced and strained form.
Wilde was hanging and seemed "comfortably struggling".
Yee looked strong and composed. If it came down to an neck-and-neck sprint with 400-500m to go, my money would have been on Yee, who has a 7:45 3000m.
If Blummenfelt had any kind of shot, he'd have to go early and open a gap big enough to snap the rubber band - which is exactly what he did, I never saw the break, but apparently he went hard at 1k, with takes steel nuggets when you're already hurting.
I was surprised Yee didn't counter. IMHO, Yee just didn't want it enough and seemed content with any medal.
Blummenfelt slowed a bit before the tape to showboat, which we've seen end it disaster.
The finish line showed who laid it out. Blummenfelt collapsed, puked, and appeared to be fighting cramps.
Guts and good strategy - may not have been the best, but was the best - totally deserved Gold.
