That has caused me to end up in Red Bluff for a week in July? Any of you ever have the pleasure?

Sorry to hear that circumstances have led you to this fate.
Here's what you do. Hop on the 5 headed south, just keep driving till you see tall buildings on the horizon, this is Sacramento. I know, not much better, but still much improved surroundings than Red Bluff. Don't worry, you aren't stopping.
At this point you have a choice of two left hand turns on either 80 or 50. A short 2.5 hours on either, give or take will get you to beautiful Lake Tahoe. 80 will get you there via Truckee, and put you on the north shore and 50 will dump you right in South Lake. Good luck, and enjoy the water.
That's hilarious. Red Bluff is the armpit of California, along with others I've mentioned like Bakersfield. But yeah, Red Bluff is probably worse. It's like tweeker heaven. If you went there with friends, I would suggest that you get better friends.
Just head east for about an hour to Mt Lassen. Cooler and some hiking/trail running.
At least it is a dry heat. Hope the smoke from the fires isn't too bad there now.

Careful, that's Bigfoot country! He gets rowdy in the summer.

Are you a real life Californian?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt-tG6ufH90$80 allows me to change my southwest flight and get out of here early. Anyone available to drive me to Sacramento?

In-laws. Every time I’m here I swear I’m never coming back and every time my wife swears it will be different this time: she’s planned fun activities, there are wineries now, we’re going to hit all the Chico breweries, that kind of thing. And every time I end up on a couch that smells like dog in front of a television playing loud Fox News.
I had an epiphany a few minutes ago: it’s 10:30 and nothing has happened yet. That was my problem. I come to red bluff and expect something got happen. So I sit around for hours waiting for something to happen and nothing ever happens and I get angrier and angrier as my life ticks away.
So my epiphany; It’s 10:30 and nothing has happened. Period. End of thought.
On hold with southwest to move my flight up. Anticipated wait time: 1 hour. Can’t use the app unless I change the flight for the whole family and the family is not on board. 60 more minutes and nothing has happened.
Below you will find a list of things you can do if you stay. This one is my favorites from that list :

Apparently, it is assumed that if you are in Red Bluff you are going to need this!
Also, I gotta admit, the pet vet at the tractor supply has me thinking road trip!

Apparently, that mistake was marrying a woman from Red Bluff. You chose poorly.
I think I drove through Red Bluff once. Are you a Mexican immigrant farm worker? The only thing I see out in places like that is Mexican dudes in trucks. But the Mexican food out there is pretty good.

She wasn’t from red bluff. Her parents grew up there; then lived in many better places, and after retiring decided to move back. Who does that? Like they travelled the world and came back here by choice.
Blame your patents because they provided your environment, which in turn developed or stunted your personality and self worth levels. Your parents can blame their parents for shortcomings and the cycle continues down the family tree.
This is getting worse and worse. Was told we had to be here on Wednesday to sign paperwork with an attorney early Thursday morning. This has caused me to be in red bluff for a day longer than planned. So Thursday morning turns into Thursday afternoon, then it’s determined that I’m not needed (or wanted) at the paperwork signing. Then the paperwork signing turns out to be at some aunt’s house because she’s a notary and they paperwork is…wait for it…
Trust documents that my father in law has written up. None of the sisters end up signing it as my FIL (surprise, not an attorney) has named one daughter beneficiary and in the event she has no heirs it moves to another daughter. And they’re all like: why are you making her husband the beneficiary in the event of her untimely death (she has no kids). Later, when I hear this story, I remark to my wife that I believe he meant to name her as trustee (while they’re living) or executor (if they’re dead). But I’m also not an attorney, so I suggested my wife offer to pay for a high quality red bluff lawyer to write this up.
This morning my wife mentions the attorney and says “Hubby here noted that sister shouldn’t be the beneficiary…”
And MIL cuts her off with “Hubby doesn’t get a say in this!”
Let’s be honest. I’m on letsrun. I’m not hurting for money and these people live in Red Bluff. I’m assuming there’s no money anyway.
I can’t believe I’m still here.

I think it’s the opposite. The sign coming into town tells me there are 14,000 people who live here. I believe my parents raised me so well that I alone among the 14,000 citizens of red bluff am able to recognise how spectacularly crappy it is. I’m sure some of them are meth addicts and it’s easy to not be homeless when your rent is only $400 a month, but I suspect most of the people who continue to live here just don’t know any better.

... and by "some" you mean "a lot."

There are a few Mexican restaurants, but outside of those, I only see white people.
True story: I was just at a 92 years old’s birthday party and she’s supposed to be telling all the great grand kids what it was like growing up 90 years ago. One of them asks “What was your first pet?” And before she can answer, her daughter yells “Was that N*****?”
I can’t say I’ve been anywhere in the last 20 or 30 years where someone felt like they could say that out loud.
