He did it at Stanford and Oregon…
Will Vin Lannana put together a new powerhouse in UVA?
Anyone?

Yes. It has begun.
More grist for the mill. The machine needs human flesh.
They look no better than at most any other time in the last decade. Distance may get better but at the expense of everything else. They’ve had a strong distance program but now they are dumping nearly everything into it to make Vin look better. They’ve consistently battled va tech and FSU for track titles. I doubt that will continue. Now they will attempt to battle Notre Dame, NC State, Wake Forest and UNC for a XC title not unlike the last decade except for worse in track.
Virginia is more like UC Berkeley, not much like Stanford unless you mean the vast majority of students are from affluent backgrounds.
Success at UVA will be tougher for a few reasons:
Tougher for Lanana to circumvent scholarship limits and sundry NCAA rules.
Tighter leash on Vin, so a lack of coaching ability will come to the fore.
UVA not focal to Nike marketing money. Less bombast and hype to assist recruiting.
Weather worse, especially in summer and winter. Vietnam meets Deliverance.
All the crappiness of Eugene without wood chips or hippie chicks to sweeten the experience.
No down to earth Virgin River vibe, wealth inequality and slave cabins are no longer quaint.
Gains from the demise of William and Mary (death by mega-mileage) but will continue to be ripped to shreds by VT, several Ivy League programs and a handful of regional competitors, especially including ND.
U of O, Stanford essentially training camps, one is camp for kids that actually study.
The other you get a pat on the back for a 2.1 GPA.
UVA kids might be drunk and spoiled but they are not down with academic failure
Best runs are near campus there, that helps; at UVA you have limited training options nearby.
Thus the UVA trends away from 5000/10000.
Not as good as U of O or Stanford, but better than Virginia Tech.
Why do you say Vin lacks coaching ability? Can you expand upon that please?
is Meyer or Wynne coming back or are they done? I feel like they were 5th year seniors but not sure. what I do know is that the womens incoming class is absolutely loaded with Barnett, Atkinson and others. Is Nicole Blood responsible for the west coast recruiting?
The most comprehensive coverage of Virginia Cavaliers XC/Track on the web with highlights, Watervliet, N.Y. / Shaker High School / University at Albany.

The boys incoming class is just as loaded with Mountain, Braddock, and Wachtel plus 3 or 4 more solid recruits. It will be interesting to see how Vin does developing these guys over the next few years. What I do know is that Vin seems to win wherever he goes.
