Why are 8 USA women listed in the marathon?

Also Elise Cranny in the 10 (4 US women listed) and I think 4 Ethiopian women listed.
Also Francine Niyonsaba listed under the 10 and 5. I guess she succeeded where Caster failed?
In the men's marathon, Brazil has the youngest entrant and the third oldest.

Favorites for medals, not necessarily this order - Ahmed (Can), Barega (Eth), Cheptegei (Uga), Kamworor (Ken), Kejelcha (Eth), Kiplimo (Uga).
Kincaid and Fisher, top 10.
This is going to be an absolutely fascinating contest and it should be a fast race with Cheptegei and Kamworor pushing to the max. Kejelcha and Barega sitting and waiting..... One of the most fascinating races on the program.
Back to the 10,000 m prediction.
Wanders resurrected or “also ran” that is the question? Hopefully the former. It would be good to see him run under 28 minutes again which would put him on track to run well in half marathons on the road and his plan to run a marathon before the end of the year.
If it is a slower tactical race, (unlikely) both Americans have a chance to show quite well, Kincaid and Fisher.
The Argentine, Munoz, entered in the marathon has a best 10,000 m of 30:02 on the track (2018), but ran the marathon in 2:09:59 in Valencia in December 2020. Super shoes are of great benefit.
If Weldon had transported himself to the super shoe era he would have been a sub 2:10 marathon runner also or faster.

A sick joke. Doesn't he even have to run the qualifying standard?
He hasn't raced since Doha in 2019. In fact, other than Doha he's raced 3 times in the last 5 years. Yet we know he's going to show up and at least medal after doing virtually nothing but sticking EPO needles into his arm for half-a-decade. And everybody here will be declaring him the GOAT.

LETS GO!
Craig Engels is listed down for the 1500m, or is that just as a reserve spot should one of the other U.S entries pull out?
Same situation with Isaiah Harris in the 800, why are 4 guys listed?
Prolly if a guy scratches
They must be a reserve I'm guessing.. I wonder if that means Engels will travel to Tokyo
Ayanleh Souleiman is also entered in the 1500m. Potential medal contender at age 28.

Craig Engels doesn't look to me like someone who pulls out.
