My team is 2 weeks into their first higher volume 3 week training block.....well, in reality, a handful of kids are following the program and the rest are doing about what they've done in the past. The plan was to get through this first block of high mileage / relatively low intensity and then take a cut back week.
I checked one of my guys' Strava feed today and he made some sort of comment on there about how the mileage is all of a sudden getting easier. His overall pace has been dropping down too. A few weeks ago, he was averaging in the 7:20s per mile, now it's below 7:10 and he claimes it feels easier than before. It makes me wonder if he really needs to cut back after one more week or not.
I'm still leaning toward sticking with the plan and having him and the other few that are hitting bigger numbers take a down week after next week
FWIW, his last 2 weeks have been at 60. He's a junior. I've got one other junior at 60 one at 50, a senior at 50 and my most talented kid is high 30s (he's been traveling with his family for 3 weeks and getting runs in as able, according to Strava, he had an epic 12 miler in Zion Canyon)
