I’ve always been against them. I’ll admit I have a soft spot for Bernard Lagat but I do t look at any of his times as American records if he still has those. Chelimo is a clown

Is there a rule that says you have to finish in lane 1? I don't think so.
At NCAAs, Hocker got the lead in lane 2 and then moved into lane 1 in front of Nuguse to block him. For some reason I didn't like it.
But this one I liked. Not sure why. Call me a hypocrite.
And also if everyone if veeering out it doesn't give anyone an advantage. If everyone here is running a tangent all it does is make it easier for Cooper Teare in lane 1 right?
100% agreed. Didn't like it when Hocker did it but I get it. I think people are mad now because they didn't like that PAUL was the winner
it was a b!tch @ ss move, not illegal but certainly a d!ck move on his part. had he kept in lane 1 maybe he out kicks them, if not he would still make the team.
just a jerk move I will not be pulling for him in Japan.

I acknowledge that. But like Lagat whom I also don't acknowledge, Chelimo is a proven medalist. So his win must be accepted as distasteful as it is. He was better.

Chelimo was toying with them. He could've fought off any challenge they gave him. He was running just hard enough.
Only a b*tch dodges the Kenya trials to make the US team. Seems like he took a page out of the alexi Pappas book
Stunning to see this website with advertisers considering the toleration (support?) of racism.

It's sad. If you find a country you want to live in and legally change citizenship. Whats wrong with that? In lagat and chelim's case they are medal caliber athletes representing the USA. I love it.

Yes I’m racist. Except I say the same thing for Alexis Pappas and any other athlete of any race that does the same thing for any country.

Nothing is wrong with that. I just think it’s dumb to the compete for them in the Olympics. I look at the Olympics as representing a countries success in “x” event. Chelimo grew up in Kenya. Doesn’t mean anything to US running if he medals and his past medal. Doesn’t do anything for Greek running when AP made the team

I grew up in California but went to highschool in Georgia. Should I return my state championship medals because I'm not from there? Or should my school record not count because I was a transfer? No. That doesn't make sense. It's the same concept. The athletes just represent the country.
Chelimo got us a silver medal not kenya. Alexis Pappas didn't do as much for Greece because no medal. If other sports have players get traded and represent other teams why can't running do the same. It's way harder to do it in this sport anyways. Plus it's not like our teams are easy to qualify for.
Imagine if Bolt, orJakob decided to become Americans. No one would say they are fake Americans like many call the army guys here on letsrun boards
Citizens like Chelimo are good to compete. Praught for Jamaica is garbage. She is from IL and has lived in the US her entire life.

People who watch more than one track meet every four years know that this is just part of racing.
Nope not true. You can watch a thousand races and not see somebody start in the middle of Lane one and move to the beginning of Lane 5 consistently trying to cut somebody off. This was akin to stick in your arm out. It's a b***** move. Cutting off lane one off the turn, making somebody run a little farther around you is Fair game. Not running at a 45° angle five Lanes over.

They need to change the rule. So easy to legislate. The race is supposed to go to the fastest. Some tactics here and there are fine but just being able to physically block somebody by running at an acute angle across four lanes should be an easy dq. The tour de France relegates people to last place at least a couple times a year that get in somebody's line on the sprint.
LetsRun being racist - what a shock
If this was any of your golden boy white runners you would all be applauding the grit and tactics.
Chelimo won - get over it.
Yes this is right. And just like some people are saying that they all ran the same distance if they're all running at the same angle this is also misleading. Whether it's 6 cm or they're running in the same direction, the more important part is that the party that's getting cut off is constantly have to react to a new line. The guy that's doing the cutting off knows where he's going. In a sport where hundreds and tenths of seconds matter it's way more than 6 cm. It's reaction time and changing your line.

Bingo

The color of his skin never occurred to me. As a matter of fact I kind of liked the trim of his jib before this race. I don't like him cuz he's a cheat now. But yes otherwise you're right there's a lot of racists around here.
I watched it and enjoyed it. Though I don't know the rules, at what point does it become a DQ? If he pushes them off the other end of the track?
If you're in the position and moving to the inside lane would require you to slow down to prevent getting tripped up, that isn't an option. You just can't recover from slowing down in the last 200.
Agreed. It would almost be worth making a bee line for where lane 7 meets the finish line as soon as they realize what he's up to.

Around the 12:19 mark in the race, Kincaid impedes Connor Mantz. He pushed him to the left as he tries to split two runners to get ahead. Watch the race. The announcer even says Mantz gets muscled out. He used similar tactics in the 10,000 meter race. This won't fly in the olympics.
Looks like Mantz even stepped on the inside of the rail after that. Definitely impacted him, not that he was going to be top 3 but it did slow him down some.
