Such BS. He should be DQd
He never broke the other runners stride. It's fine.

Chelimo is just the worst. Impossible to route for. Seems like he should be DQ’d every race he’s in.
*ROOT* for. Jesus…I need to stop AM drinking.

Lane Four.
What a great name for a saloon.
"Let me take you out to Lane Four and get a beer"
Maybe posters should now refer to him as "Mr. Lane Four" in place of Chelimo going forward in the forums.
Chelimo is a great runner but I don't see how blocking runners from lane 1 to lane 4 in the homestretch is not a direct dq. Did it gain him a material advantage by blocking his competitors? Likely.

someone saying this is DQ want to cite the rule that he could be DQed under?
Rule 163 (3): a competitor must run in a direct line after entering the final straightaway of any race with two or more turns unless there is another runner in his or her path (paraphrased a bit).
Chelimo was in the lead, so there was no one in his path, and certainly no need for him to move from Lane 1 to Lane 4 to make his way to the finish line. He did it to obstruct the other two runners. Dirty move, especially for a guy who complained the whole race about people making incidental contact with him.
I went and looked it up. Looks like it is against USATF rules to do this but not World Athletics.
2021 USATF Rulebook isn't online.
But 2020 handbook does have this
163 3 "Each competitor shall run in a direct line after entering the final straightaway in all races of two or more turns unless there is another competitor in his or her path"
World Athletics has no such rule.
Not sure why USATF has different rules than WA.
I'm fine with no DQ. Chelimo didn't get an advantage. All it did was give Teare a chance in lane 1. If everyone drifts wide they're all running extra distance.
And this is selection for the Olympic team so they should have the same rules as the Olympics. The Pro end of the sport needs to have one set of rules and that is WA.
Weldon needs to admit when he’s wrong. It’s clearly against the rules and Chelimo *could* have been disqualified. Whether he *should* have been DQ’d is another question.

Wejo, what are you smoking? Rule 163 makes it illegal to obstruct another runner by WA rules. Physical contact isn't required for this. Why have the rule if it's never enforced? Yes, the USATF rule is more specific, but it's a perfectly legitimate DQ under WA rules. In fact, it is as blatant a case as I've seen at this level. Fisher couldn't get by because Chelimo was running at an angle, and he would have lost too much time to try to swerve back inside of Chelimo.
Chelimo is a person without class.
He comes across as a jerk. I wish he got dq'd.
Why not race w some honor.
Chelimo is a loser.
hell ya
The 2021 USATF Rules Book has the identical Rule 163.3. But let me add Rule 163.4:
4. Any competitor or participant responsible for jostling, running across, or obstructing another competitor or participant so as to impede his or her progress shall be liable to disqualification in that event. The Referee shall have the authority to order the race be re-held, excluding any disqualified competitor(s), for one, some or all competitors seriously affected by jostling or obstruction or allow such competitors to compete in a subsequent round of the race. Normally, such competitor(s) should have completed the event with bona fide effort. The Referee shall also have the authority to order the race be re-held or advance one, some or all competitors seriously affected by jostling or obstruction that is unintentional or caused otherwise than by a competitor if it is just and reasonable to do so.
NOTE: Some factors to be considered when determining a disqualification include safety, equitable competition, severity of the infraction and resulting consequence.
Seems very open to interpretation by the Referee. I personally did not like it and think it definitely needs to be looked at closely but there is NO way they are going to disqualify Chelimo after he won the 5000. Unless a winner does something that is not open to subjectivity, such as stepping on the line, hooking a hurdle, or gives a patented Vincent Kiprop shoulder bump, no winner will be DQed.
Did you even watch the post race interview and heard what his competitors said. I swear another fool online assuming someone’s got no class
Chelimo is very arrogant but no DQ is warranted here. He is the king of gamesmanship and playing head games out there for sure. He’s like the aggressive soccer player always bordering on dirty and always risking a yellow/red card.
I do wonder where his arrogance comes from?
The guy was mixing it up in 2016 trying to beat Farah in Rio even though he had no business doing that. His confidence/edge is part of what makes him great. He could be a nice guy on the track and finished 5th would that make you like him more.
Thank god no DQ. We need excitement and good guys and bad guys. I loved it. Would also love it if Fisher and Kincaid were pissed. But DQ would just have sucked. Track officials in distance races have one job-make sure no one cuts a corner. Other than that, let them race. This is not the Olympic Trials of officials but of runners. Glad officials showed common sense.
Also-“class” is boring. This is sports and competition not a tea party. I wish Chelimo had done a shoulder shimmy with 200 to go.
Pre. Ovett. Coe. Haile. All sorts of running heroes showed arrogance and exuberance and swagger.
If Grant would have just went to the inside after Chelimo moved out he could have countered his block.
Around the 12:19 mark in the race, Kincaid impedes Connor Mantz. He pushed him to the left as he tries to split two runners to get ahead. Watch the race. The announcer even says Mantz gets muscled out. He used similar tactics in the 10,000 meter race. This won't fly in the olympics.

Where did I say I wasn’t a fan? Why would I have a hard like/dislike someone I’ve never met? Paul’s a racer and he’s arrogant on the track. A little brash, a little cocky. Sports fans get too worked up acting like athletes need to be meek little angels.

JTFC! He could not have moved in because he would have had to go through Chelimo to do it! Grant was right next to Chelimo's back kick the entire straightaway until the very end. There was no room for him to move left!
