I’m shocked and extremely impressed with Kerley. Great point about the 200 - combine 9.86 with sub-44 ability and I would think he’d be a medal favorite there.

America probably has the best 4 in the world at 200 now though. Laird Lyles Bednarek Kerley all can go sub 19.8 I think.

He could medal in the 100 in Tokyo. I am ready to see how he runs in the 200. It seems like the 200 should be his best event but who knows. If Kerley medals in the 100, 200, and 4x100 in Tokyo that would be something. An Olympic/WC medal in every sprint event(100, 200, 400, 4x100, 4x400) would be crazy. Has anyone done it before?
I believe Ms. Felix has done something like that!
He did it!
Don't think she received an individual 100m medal though.

Other than that, it’s pretty rare.
Impressive.
Um, ever hear of Usain Bolt?
Thank god, Fred kerley Just proved everyone in this board that doubted him. Anyone who doubted please never become a coach or just quit while your ahead.

If he did not get clearance to be 4x400 relay eligible, this is a horrible decision and a huge risk to his gold medal prospects.
If somehow he is still 4x4 eligible then its a surprising but not as terrible decision.
He may even have good reasons for this we are not aware of.
I am not going to yell from Peanut Gallery and say Fred Kerley is making a bad decision. Kerley knows his body. Four-hundred metre training is grueling. If Kerley feels his body breaks down training for 400m, how can I say he is making a poor decision? If Kerley believes he's 9.85 or better 100m man, who knows?
I stated 9.85, Kerley sprinted 9.86. Kerley may still have a sub-9.85 in him. I was a middle distance guy like many of you but unlike most Clydesdales on here, I was asked to sprint 200m or 220 yards depending on the track. I knew Kerley thought this all through thoroughly. As I stated days ago, I knew Kerley made a thoughtful decision. Many of you (Rojo) owe Kerley an apology for stating Kerley made a foolish decision.
Welp, I stand corrected. Well done!
Always bet on Black
And another thing. If FK spent an off season training for the 800 meters he could go at least a 1:46 look at him he is a man. I have got over 50 years in track and field competing, coaching, and observing. You youngsters better open your eyes to an athlete’s possibilities.

Great post !
So FK DID know best.
At this point, he is a 100m guy, just as unsuited for 400m as a current 400m guy is unsuited for 100m—and mo, I don’t believe Norman’s 100m “PB”.
He did exactly what he needed to do—he cleaned up his drive phase. Verrrry nice. I had a feeling he would do it, but the time surprises me. He’s now as fast as Carl Lewis!😂
Seriously though, he has shown that he can travel and maintain discipline. He is an absolute medal threat in Tokyo.
I have no hopes for his 200m. It takes a ton of practice that I don’t know that he has been doing. I think he will fade after a good-looking first 135m.
But again, he knows best what he has been doing and where he’s at. Self-coached, right? Looks like he has closed ranks.
He proved everyone wrong. Honestly I think if Norman would of done this he has just as good a chance at winning the 100m and 200m. Now he only has the chance to win one event that is stacked. The men’s 100 is wide open and the heavy version of Lyles is definitely beatable in the 200m.
I doubt Norman runs the 200 now that he’s qualified for the 400 but I wish he would.
Kerley and his coaches were thinking on another level. Bolt went from 400m to short sprinter. Boling exploded onto the scene from being a 400m guy to a short sprinter. Ronnie Baker was practically laughing at Fred coming down lol. He might want to rethink that now. Hate that Kenny B didn’t make it. He should make the 200m if Norman chooses not to run it.
Crazy because none of this happens without covid and Coleman getting busted. Fred definitely was a lot leaner looking last night tho. He used to be jacked.

I look at it this way. If you had a chance to 10x your salary would you take it? He would go from a guy the rest of the world has never heard of to a god among men overnight.
What do you mean? Wouldn't he greatly increase his salaary by winning the 400 gold?
I still can't believe Fred Kerley is doing 100/200. He's run two 400s this year and both were 44s. His 200 pb is just 20.24. Yes he's broken 100 in two 100s this year but both had big winds (2.0 and 1.4).
It's going to be must-watch tv. As a non-sprint guy though, it just seems crazy.
Well you don't know much about distance running either.
Xavier Carter vibes. What could have been from the X-Man.

Who cares even if he breaks 9.85? A 9.85 is normal. It's not even fast. Bolt should have done like 9.09 FAT or faster with the proper coaching.
Maybe he should learn proper arm mechanics before he wants to break 9.85. None of the sprinters even know what to do with their arms.
The hand should never drop below the upper chest at all points during the race from start to finish.
But yay.... swing your arms as fast as you can. Do a pointless back swing. The farther back you swing your arm, the faster you will go. Keep thinking that.
The 90 degree arm angle is something they taught athletes in like the year 1821.
Gutsiest move since Mav hit the breaks
He should move up to the 800!
