Wednesday did not feel great. Was super muggy and could not get my legs to go. Miles ended up being 5:56, 5:55, 5:48, 5:33 (final .42), then 4:41, 4:42, 4:35, and 4:37 pace on the minute surges. I ran a 5K race in Nashville the weekend before and it definitely still had some sting left on my legs.
Rest of the week went off without a hitch and I didn't come with very big expectations. I didn't plan on even doing this race at all up until like a month ago. Race was tougher than I expected. It was a bit warmer than I wanted it to be and we had a rough mile long headwind over the second half of each 5K loop. I had to stop at 15 miles to go to the bathroom and loosen up the lacing on my shoes as they had already started hurting 7 miles prior. Miles 21-24 started to shake a bit and then I completely cratered over the 9th loop. Focus on the 8th and 9th loop was just not to walk. My feet hurt horribly but I was in a decent position so I figured I'd stay in there should I just not walk. Passed one guy over the last loop and closed hard covering mile 30 in 6:08, 31 in 6:05, and the final 400 at 5:15 pace. 8th overall and a new mark for the longest run of my life. Definitely the hardest thing I've ever done.
Will be looking to take a couple more days off before doing a week or two of just 20-30 minute runs. The conditions weren't great and I'm not happy with the time all together but I'm happy with getting my first 50k done. Focus is now recovering from this and trying to hit a good Boston Marathon. Hoping for somewhere in the 2:22-2:25 range.
