I thought Notre Dame had burnt down.
I heard they do 1500 repeats or something
I know during XC they do an 8 mile tempo at 5:15 pace on Tuesdays and thats pretty much it. Maybe some repeats/sharpening workouts during an off weekend/closer to nationals. From what I've heard, the coach isn't very good. He just has an absurdly talented group of runners who make it seem like he's a good coach.
It is difficult to believe that talented runners will continue to achieve success in their sport, if they are doing bad training/recovery/nutrition.

Maybe it's that simple? A significant number of easy miles, one workout per week, and "repeats/sharpening"?
That seems too easy, no? It is not glamorous or fancy.
You really think they will achieve success on such a simple formula?
is that so? wrote:

But there was no mention of the training accomplished before the "during XC" phase.
Yeah, the Tuesday tempo is pretty standard for ND and a lot of guys either burn out from doing it or just get really fit. From what i've heard they don't do much else. I know someone who's brother is on the team and they said that Yared started doing track workouts like two weeks ago and until then they were just doing tempos and hills.
There are plenty of fast high school kids who go to Notre Dame that don't do anything special, so I don't think the training is anything special. I think Yared Nuguse is just special. He's a big talent.
There should probably be a runner from ND on strava, go through their roster search and there you go. Many top college / pros are on it so you should be able to find something.

You “heard” that Sean Carlson isn’t a very good coach? You heard?? This is the kind of vague, unattributable nonsense we have been dealing with for the past four years: “I dunno, but a lot of people are talking about it…”
And why do you think those “absurdly talented runners” want to go to Notre Dame? To be altar boys at the Grotto? No, to work with a coach that will bring out the best in them, not burn them out, and to run with others who are doing the same.
Try this for not very good: Notre Dame Men’s Cross Country 2018: 7th in the ACC and 14th at the NCAAs. 2020: (run in 2021) 1st in the ACC and 2nd in the NCAAs.
Carlson is a great coach because he is strategic and he is a master at getting his athletes to peak at the right time. The next time you hear “Carlson not very good,” I suggest you direct your ear somewhere else.

Um... it's very possible to maintain be a faithful Catholic while still being an excellent runner. The two aren't opposed to each other.
I've heard that he isn't a good coach from guys who were on the team in the past few years so I think i'll take their word for it over yours.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
