She showed throughout the season that she was capable of running these distances fast enough to qualify. But you are going to have off days, especially as a freshman. Qualifying would have been a nice experience, but it is not as if she was running times this season that made her a serious contender, so not qualifying was not any kind of upset either.
You are right.
Not qualifying in outdoors does not take away the fact that shes had one of the best freshman season and is the top real freshman distance runner in the nation with her times.
But, quite unfair how some people troll her for having one bad day but not talking about how she kept having PRs, podium in ACC and finished 24th in NCAA XC as the only freshman in top 45.
She was literally injured just 7 months ago, she had to go through more struggles compared to other runners they kept comparing her to, she had longer break of not running, had to work harder getting fit again, the pressure, the mental stress of running thinking you might get injured again, the expectations of herself and other people, and more.. tough but despite all she posted impressive times, top times as a true freshman.
Also, people needs to chill about tactics, yes she lacks racing knowledge (not her fault) but she's learning every race, everyone makes mistakes, let her make mistakes and learn on her own pace.
Katelyn did well.
