Pretty much no effect. I've been traveling, going out to bars, going to house parties, etc. Just have really only missed big concerts and festivals. Sucks for other people who put their whole lives on hold for a year lol.
Biggest impact has been getting screamed at several times per week by scientifically illiterate Covid police for jogging without a mask. That ruined a lot of mornings for me. Wearing a mask in general is something I absolutely hate every second of.
The senseless rules and precautions has turned me from a solid Democrat to a libertarian. I voted non-D for the first time ever this election (went for Jo Jorgensen, would love to see a libertarian-leaning Republican on the next ticket).
I knew tons of people that got COVID, and not a single person under age 95 who got seriously ill.
I have a toddler, so the bars/restaurants thing didn't affect me.
Had to do more videoconferencing for work, which I grew to loathe.
Traffic improved, which was the only good thing.
It confirmed to me how stupid the great majority of people are.
Problem is, just about everyone has the same thought, but for different reasons.
I have had to put up with thousands of COVID posts on LR. On the plus side, Jamin has once again shown his true colors.
My wife and I are retired so we can hunker down at home whenever we choose.
Wearing a mask at the supermarket and post office is about the only direct effect on me. My wife's grandchild stayed overnight with us only 1 time in 12 months.. Before covid, that was about once a month.
An experimental vaccine for a virus that will probably NOT hurt me ? Ain't gonna happen.
I’ve been enriched beyond my wildest dreams. Saved a lot of money by cancelling vacations. Got a bunch of hero bonuses for being so essential. My house has nearly doubled in value in the last year—people hoping to telecommute from somewhere nicer than they currently live are buying up my neighbourhood.
Lost about $40k when my wife went to part time remote work (and a year on her public employee retirement timeline). No Xmas vacation/ski trip. Stayed in state for spring break instead of going to ski (planned on two ski trips for my 50th birthday year). Had booked a couple of concerts that got cancelled when COVID first hit. Took my kid out of club soccer, but don't really miss it much. No summer camps last year and no water parks for my kid.
Fortunate that my work has been steady. And that is a good thing because this has been a year of everything breaking. Lawn mower, TV, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher all broke and had to be replaced. Also busted a pipe during the TX freeze and was without running water for several weeks.
