Third to finish may be Mekuant Ayenew who won Seville in Feb last year in 2.04.46. His previous best was 2.09.00 when third in Prague in 2017.
Oops, out of order. Should have been Emmanuel Saina for second next.
Here is what i wrote about Saina a year ago: was 3rd in Rotterdam in 2.05.42. Here is the copy i wrote about him then:
This is a deep field, fifth finisher should be Emmanuel Saina. He is 26yo and ranked 26. If he does well here, i would like to see how he goes in a major. Was 4th in Dubai this January and won his only marathon of last year in Buenos Aries in 2.05.21, fastest ever at the time on that continent. Recorded amazing 5k splits between 25 and 30 of 14.09, then from 30 to 35 of 14.12 to burn off a field including Kipserem.
And here is what i wrote about those two 5k splits on a bio on Christian Pacheco:
His best time of 2.11.19 was recorded in the incredible Buenos Aries marathon last year. Outstanding race because the winner, Emmanuel Saina, laid down amazing 5k splits between 25 and 35k to crush the field. Those splits were 14.09 and 14.12. If any man (Kipchoge may be the only one) could maintain those splits for a whole marathon, they would finish in 1.59.37. Pacheco was third then
