Kate Brown will not allow us to ever go back to normal. I don’t foresee places like Eugene and Portland hosting events for at least a few more years. I don’t think many Portland businesses will ever allow people without masks indoors again. I still see tons of people driving alone wearing masks, walking outside alone wearing masks, etc. It’s become part of the virtue signaling culture out here. No way that’s changing in 2 months. We can’t even go to a freaking gym for at least 3 more weeks! (Admittedly, gyms can be open but they can only have up to 6 people, including workers, so they’re all closed.)
Simply put, even if the science and evidence say it’s safe to have the trials, the culture here won’t allow it.
It's all political. How can planes be filled to capacity and yet outdoor stadiums can't have any fans - even with masks? I was just in a retail clothing store that was filled with people all touching and handling the same clothing and merchandise.
No one has done more to discourage people from getting vaccinated than Joe Biden. He did a zoom conference with a mask on! I'm afraid masks and shutdowns are now a permanent part of our society. They will be implemented whenever a politician decides. There is a segment of our society that is all too willing to go along. We've all seen them - wearing masks in their cars, on the sidewalk with no one around for a 100 meters, and my favorite - wearing them in their own yards.
Our gov't has been 100 percent successful in scaring people to the point where we will never have normal society again - or at least what we assumed was normal. And yes, I've been vaccinated. And I'm amazed at just how little things have changed.
Yes why don’t we move the olympics to the United Stated because fuk Japan
Under Gov. Kate Brown the Oregon COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 people is 59. The fifth lowest state, not too bad.
Texas COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 is 174, #29 on the list. If Texas had Oregon's rate 34,500 more Texans would be alive today.
Oregons current 7-day rolling average of daily new reported cases per 100,000 residents is 19 cases. That puts them #13 on he list, not the top, they never have been top of the list. Michigan is number one on the list at 41 cases, Florida is # 7 at 23 cases. Oregon is not leading the nation in COVID infections, no mater what you're fake news reports.
I think, no one has done more to discourage people from getting vaccinated than Donald Trump. No one has done less to keep the country safe from COVID than Donald Trump. 575,000 dead Americans, we lead the world in this measurement.
I wish we could accept a vaccine passport system so we could screen and safely hold events like this for the growing number of vaccinated folks. Sadly, strong resistance from the right will not allow this to happen.
You, Frannie, have bought into the Faucian Bargain! God save your soul.
Georgia??? Iowa is just as regressive as GA and they’ve hosted the trials before

If you mean a place of common sense....
Iowa has never hosted the Olympic Track and Field Trials. You might be thinking of Indiana 88 but nonetheless, you probably weren't there either.

As far as I know, the best track stadium in Atlanta is at Emory. I think ATC hosted a pro mile field there a couple years ago, but I doubt they would be able to host the trials tbh
Georgia Tech
Ga Tech has seating for, like, 125 people. Emory can seat at least a couple thousand, albeit on bleachers.
Good for Oregon. Watch on TV.
According to the Gov., Oregon is shut down primarily dude to COVID hospitalizations.
First equation: 0.07% of Oregon’s population is hospitalized.
Second equation: 0.002% of Oregon’s population is in ICU
7-day average for deaths in Oregon is.... 3. Guess it's time to shut everything down!
Does Oregon have a recall option like California does? Gavin Newsom has backed way the hell off since it became apparent he was going to be facing a recall election. It’s beyond idiotic to shut a state down when there’s a vaccine available to those who want it.
Florida is open and North Florida has revamped stadium and practice track. Jacksonville easy in and out lots of motels. Heat is an issue, but not for short distance and run distances early am or late at night.
Actually, Jacksonville is already completely booked for Florida state track and field next weekend. So, it's not as if it has a great deal of excess capacity. At regionals yesterday, high school 1600m races were going off around 4:30-5 in 90 degree heat and the 3200m in not much better weather, although the best were somehow running 4:15/4:44 or better in the 1600m in those conditions.
Rojo you have a real problem with one of your mods. I have made two threads with links indicating the effectiveness of the Covid vaccination and how more younger adults are now hospitalized from Covid more than adults over 65. Its because of behavior and failure to get vaccinated.
The posts provided a great message encouraging our readers to be safe and to get the vaccination. We are doing great as a country but we are not quite there yet. When we get there, the issue in your thread will not be an issue any longer.
Now there are three threads with subject lines discouraging vaccination. I don't think its you or wejo, but one your your mods hated the subject line that encouraged vaccination, so they deleted them.
Its so irresponsible to remove a message that encourages healthy behavior but keeping three threads that encourages behavior that not only endangers the individual but harms the country.
I just don't think you would be in favor of this if you knew about it. I don't think I am wrong about this. I may not always agree with you, but I have respect for you and your brother. I believe you would want to do the right thing and not prevent the message promoting healthy behavior.
