I just ran a 2:10 800m today. I am 5 foot 8 and weigh 180 pounds. I am about 15-20 pounds over race weight right now(fat, not muscle). All other things equal, how fast would I have run today at 160-165 pounds?

If you exercise more, the problem will take care of itself.
Well that is very true but It's just a hypothetical. How much does lugging an extra 15 pounds around the track two times impact race performance?
2:12 or so
Man it's something like 1 sec per lap, per 5 lbs. We're talking 2 laps, 20 lbs lighter. That's 8 sec faster, you'd be at 2:02.
At 5'8" wouldn't 150 be a better weight than 160? That's another 4 sec. 1:58 but you gotta have the wheels for it. To go out in 58 and come back in 60 your 400m speed oughta be prolly 54 at least.
1:48
Ask Nick Symmonds. He's probably just laying around chewing gum right now.
aggressive weight loss can be a slippery slope, just putting the warning out there. I personally (and several of my teammates) have struggled with disordered eating linked primarily to a misplaced ideal of performance enhancement. But like another poster said, more running usually = weight loss and faster times. Only thing is, I can't give much of an exact time because youre height and weight aren't usually the limiting factors in running, its almost random. I'm 5'7 and run 1:56/4:23 for 800 and 1600. I know guys my height who are way slower than that, and some that are way faster. If youre forcing me to put a number on it I'd probably say around 2:05 with no change in training (if you were just magically like 150 instead of 180).
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
