I want Taiwan to prevail as well [my in-laws live there, my wife is from there] and there are defensive methods that could be taken to enhance defenses, but China is not stupid. Taiwan represents everything their regime needs to squash [rebellion, dissent, Western influence], and it is their focus, it is their prize.
So whatever defensive mechanisms /technology/strat we might have: yes, lets continue to invest in said deterrent.
But our adversary grows stronger every day. Inevitable is the phrase most people use in this conflict. Based on mainland belligerence, that time could be soon.

interesting tidbit: The UK [and ANZAC] appear to be interested in a combined effort. All have assets that can be leveraged within the air-sortie campaign and pre-invasion. Fighting will likely occur in re-supply bases for allies simultaneously [Guam, Japan, Philippines, etc]
If China can pressure key supply/re-supply airbases and force allies to long-haul combat wings they will have guaranteed victory
